2025 Lucid Gravity Grand Touring has the exact same price as a very specific competitor
Our favorite Rivian R1S version appears to be Lucid's favorite, too.

Key Takeaways
- A starting price of $94,900 is serious business, but the Lucid Gravity Grand Touring's insane capabilities make it seem like a bargain.
- Perhaps not coincidentally, there's already a wildly capable American luxury electric SUV on the market that starts at the exact same number.
America is killing it in the EV game, in case you haven't been following along, led by the neo-Big Three of Lucid, Rivian and Tesla, whose mind-blowing range and power numbers are the envy of the automotive establishment. Even by those lofty standards, the new-for-2025 Lucid Gravity Grand Touring could be the most impressive American EV yet. Boasting 450 miles of range, 400-kW fast charging, 828 horsepower, an available third-row seat and nearly minivan-like cargo space, it appears to have no weaknesses aside from its melty, wind-tunnel-friendly styling.
Nonetheless, Lucid is clearly taking one specific version of a key rival very seriously, because the Gravity Grand Touring carries an identical starting price of $94,900.
So, Who's Living Rent-Free in Lucid's Head?
That would be fellow American startup Rivian, whose R1S SUV tops our Premium Luxury Electric SUV Rankings and is one of the highest-rated vehicles we've ever evaluated. Of the many R1S configurations, our pick is the Dual Max Performance, which has the best range of the bunch at 410 miles and also gives you 665 horsepower and a 3.4-second sprint to 60 mph.
Starting price? You guessed it: $94,900, although you can get into an R1S for as little as $75,900. To us, the extra $19k is money well spent for what amounts to 140 more miles of range, 132 more horsepower and 1.1 fewer seconds to 60. It's the sweet spot in the R1S lineup.
Evidently Lucid agrees.
The sales pitch, then, will surely be that the Gravity Grand Touring provides more of everything than the R1S Dual Max Performance for the same money. But do the numbers bear that out? Let's take a look.
Lucid Gravity vs. Rivian R1S: Which is Better?
It's impossible to answer this question conclusively without third-party instrumented testing of the Gravity, which hadn't happened as of this writing, but we can certainly compare some major datapoints and discuss.
Lucid Gravity Grand Touring vs. Rivian R1S Dual Max Performance
Vehicle MSRP Max Range Horsepower 0‑60 Peak Charge Rate Cargo Capacity Towing Capacity 2025 Lucid Air Grand Touring $94,900 450 mi 828 hp 3.4 sec 400 kW 120.0 cu ft (est.) 6,000 lbs 2025 Rivian R1S Dual Max Performance $94,900 410 mi 665 hp 3.4 sec 220 kW 88.3 cu ft 7,700 lbs
At a glance, Lucid's got a strong case. The Gravity Grand Touring gives you 10 percent more range, 36 percent more cargo capacity and nearly twice the charging speed, provided you can find a 1,000-volt charging station, i.e. a V4 Tesla Supercharger. It also matches the R1S Dual Max Performance's acceleration, according to Lucid, although it's armed with 163 additional horsepower, a puzzling discrepancy that future testing should shed light on. The Rivian does maintain a 28-percent advantage in towing capacity, but that's only relevant to a sliver of electric SUV shoppers, most of whom probably wouldn't use a tow hitch for anything beyond a bike rack.

On the other hand, the Rivian's styling strikes us as more in line with what today's shoppers are looking for, and we suspect that's been the main issue with the Lucid Air sedan, too. Like the Gravity, the Air puts up stupefying numbers, but its soft, anonymous lines haven't raised many pulses. Unfortunately, the Gravity's design doesn't really move that needle.
Throw in the Rivian's presumably superior off-road chops — its 14.4-inch maximum ground clearance trounces the Gravity's 9.6-inch maximum — and we're prepared to leave it in first place, with the Gravity nipping at its heels for now. If additional significant advantages for the Lucid emerge during testing, we'll be ready to update the ranking order. The two models are so close that it won't take much to trigger a reshuffling.
What We Learned
The 2025 Lucid Gravity Grand Touring has its sights set squarely on the Rivian R1S's best self, the Dual Max Performance, at precisely the same $94,900 price point. You don't see that every day. Can the upstart dethrone the king? We'll let you know for sure once we have a chance to get behind the wheel. ⛐ md
