What's New for 2025?
The Civic sees a slew of changes this year, highlighted by the discontinuation of the 1.5T engine (except in the Civic Si, where it soldiers on) and the debut of the Civic Hybrid, which makes significantly more power and torque than the 1.5T and also brings 50 mpg fuel economy into play. Upper trims get a new suite of integrated Google apps, while all models except the Type R receive subtle styling tweaks front and rear.

Is the 2025 Honda Civic a Good Car?
"The Civic is a standout in this class, although the base 2.0-liter engine stands out for the wrong reason — it makes the Civic downright slow by current standards. But that's easily remedied by the excellent hybrid powertrain, which provides both swift acceleration (0-60 in the low 6-second range) and a real shot at averaging 50 mpg. Excessive road noise and an unimpressive touchscreen remain improvement areas, but no other compact car can match the Civic's broad range of talents, including an available hatchback body style that's optional for both the base and hybrid powertrains and mandatory for the high-performance Type R."—Ranked #1 out of 7 Compact Sedans

1. 2025 Honda Civic Sedan 2.0 CVT
- Base Price: $24,250
- MPG Combined: 36
- Drive Type: Front-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.0-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: CVT
- Horsepower: 158
- Torque: 138 lb-ft
- 0-60: 8.8 sec
- Weight: 2,877 lbs
- Length: 184.0 in
The naturally aspirated 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine soldiers on in today's entry-level Civics. Introduced in the 2016 Civic, this engine has little of the zing or zest that made earlier Honda fours so entertaining, but the fact that Honda's been making it for so long bodes well for reliability.
2. 2025 Honda Civic Hatchback 2.0 CVT
- Base Price: $27,450
- MPG Combined: 34
- Drive Type: Front-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.0-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: CVT
- Horsepower: 158
- Torque: 138 lb-ft
- Weight: 2,976 lbs
- Length: 179.0 in
The Civic hatchback is a significant upgrade over the sedan in terms of practicality, providing a much more versatile body style that's incidentally five inches shorter than the sedan. It’s not only more capacious, then; it's also easier to park. The price gap has widened, however, so if you’re not going to use the extra cargo space, it’s harder to make the argument. At the end of the day, this is an acceleration-challenged car that’s not too far from $30k to start.
3. 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid Sedan
- Base Price: $28,950
- MPG Combined: 49
- Drive Type: Front-wheel drive
- Engine: 1.5-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: CVT
- Horsepower: 200
- Torque: 232 lb-ft
- 0-60: 6.1 sec
- Weight: 3,208 lbs
- Length: 184.0 in
The Civic Hybrid is a compelling package with its Prius-rivaling fuel economy and Si-beating acceleration. It’s arguably the Civic to have, especially now that the 1.5T engine is unavailable outside of the manual-only Si.
4. 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid Hatchback
- Base Price: $30,150
- MPG Combined: 48
- Drive Type: Front-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.0-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: CVT
- Horsepower: 200
- Torque: 232 lb-ft
- Weight: 3,252 lbs
- Length: 179.0 in
Why not get extra cargo capacity to pair with the Civic Hybrid’s exceptional fuel economy and impressive acceleration? There’s no downside to the Civic Hatchback if you don’t mind paying a bit more for the added versatility. Think of it as a cheaper alternative to the Acura Integra, a Civic-based hatchback that’s much less fuel-efficient and slower, too.
5. 2025 Honda Civic Si Sedan (1.5T Manual)
- Base Price: $30,250
- MPG Combined: 31
- Drive Type: Front-wheel drive
- Engine: 1.5-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 6-speed manual
- Horsepower: 200
- Torque: 192 lb-ft
- 0-60: 6.8 sec
- Weight: 2,952 lbs
- Length: 184.0 in
The Si used to be a clear notch above other Civics, but today it's not much more than a 1.5T Civic sedan with a manual transmission. It’s true that the Si is now the only Civic to offer that 1.5T engine, but that’s because the Civic Hybrid has arrived with its superior fuel economy and acceleration. To be fair to the Si, there's no doubt that its handling upgrades make it sportier in corners, if you're into that.
6. 2025 Honda Civic Type R (2.0T Manual)
- Base Price: $45,895
- MPG Combined: 24
- Drive Type: Front-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.0-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 6-speed manual
- Horsepower: 315
- Torque: 310 lb-ft
- 0-60: 4.9 sec
- Weight: 3,188 lbs
- Length: 180.9 in
If you want a Type R, there's probably no way we can talk you out of it. Perhaps the best argument against this car is that a garden-variety Mk8 GTI will nip at the Type R's heels for many thousands less, and it boasts the additional advantage of not having a massive rear wing. But if you like the wing then sure, we get it. The Honda should hold its value a lot better, too.
