What's New for 2025?
The Civic Hatchback lineup gets a serious shuffle this year, highlighted by the discontinuation of the 1.5T engine and the introduction of the Civic Hybrid, which is available as a hatchback or a sedan. All hatches except the Type R get slightly different front and rear styling treatments, while top trims receive integrated Google apps.

Is the 2025 Honda Civic Hatchback a Good Car?
"The Civic Hatchback really shines with the optional hybrid powertrain, which delivers a 200-horsepower punch when you need it while also threatening the magical 50-mpg mark in everyday driving. We don't recommend the lethargic entry-level 2.0-liter gas powertrain, however."—Ranked #2 out of 6 Compact Hatchbacks

1. 2025 Honda Civic Hatchback 2.0 CVT
- Base Price: $27,450
- MPG Combined: 34
- Drive Type: Front-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.0-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: CVT
- Horsepower: 158
- Torque: 138 lb-ft
- Weight: 2,976 lbs
- Length: 179.0 in
The Civic hatchback is a significant upgrade over the sedan in terms of practicality, providing a much more versatile body style that's incidentally five inches shorter than the sedan. It’s not only more capacious, then; it's also easier to park. The price gap has widened, however, so if you’re not going to use the extra cargo space, it’s harder to make the argument. At the end of the day, this is an acceleration-challenged car that’s not too far from $30k to start.
2. 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid Hatchback
- Base Price: $30,150
- MPG Combined: 48
- Drive Type: Front-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.0-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: CVT
- Horsepower: 200
- Torque: 232 lb-ft
- Weight: 3,252 lbs
- Length: 179.0 in
Why not get extra cargo capacity to pair with the Civic Hybrid’s exceptional fuel economy and impressive acceleration? There’s no downside to the Civic Hatchback if you don’t mind paying a bit more for the added versatility. Think of it as a cheaper alternative to the Acura Integra, a Civic-based hatchback that’s much less fuel-efficient and slower, too.
3. 2025 Honda Civic Type R (2.0T Manual)
- Base Price: $45,895
- MPG Combined: 24
- Drive Type: Front-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.0-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 6-speed manual
- Horsepower: 315
- Torque: 310 lb-ft
- 0-60: 4.9 sec
- Weight: 3,188 lbs
- Length: 180.9 in
If you want a Type R, there's probably no way we can talk you out of it. Perhaps the best argument against this car is that a garden-variety Mk8 GTI will nip at the Type R's heels for many thousands less, and it boasts the additional advantage of not having a massive rear wing. But if you like the wing then sure, we get it. The Honda should hold its value a lot better, too.
