What's New for 2025?
Essentially unchanged, the 2025 S60 loses the "Recharge" that used to be part of the plug-in hybrid model's name, so that model is now known simply as the S60 T8. Note that we expect 2025 to be the final year for Volvo's entry-level sedan.

To wit, its fuel economy is quite frugal in standard non-hybrid form, and the S60 T8 plug-in hybrid is a unique offering with its 40 miles of electric range and formidable acceleration. The base engine's performance is uninspired, however, while the smallish, portrait-style central touchscreen is roughly a decade old and looks the part. The base front-drive S60 B5 is easily overlooked on the way to the BMW or Mercedes dealer, but you might want to give it a shot. It's reasonably quick and respectably fuel-efficient, and its styling is among the sharpest in the segment.
We'd think twice or thrice about spending the extra $2,300 for all-wheel drive on the S60. Although Volvo says the acceleration to 60 mph is a hair quicker, the S60 AWD is also about 170 pounds heavier, so ultimately it's going to be a slower car. Given that this engine isn't exactly a powerhouse, it doesn't need more weight to haul around. You also lose a significant 2 mpg combined with AWD on the EPA fuel economy rating.
Compared to the non-hybrid S60, the T8 PHEV is electric indeed. Blazing fast and blessed with about 40 miles of all-electric range, this S60 plug-in hybrid is a very different take on the compact luxury sedan formula. It's easily the S60 to have, budget permitting.
