Is the 2025 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a Good Car?
"The E-Class reigns supreme, as it should — Mercedes has been doing this midsize luxury sedan thing longer than just about anyone. But the E's recent redesign clarified that Benz's expertise in this segment really does stand alone. Even the base four-cylinder E350 is a very satisfying drive, but the E450 is a delectable upgrade with its turbocharged inline-6, and the fuel economy is delightful either way. On the road, the E-Class has usurped the 5 Series' throne, striking a perfect balance between athleticism and ride comfort. Passenger space is just right front and rear, while the trunk is similarly capacious without being excessive. Prefer an SUV-like cargo hold? Check out the E-Class All Terrain, a delightful lifted wagon that comes standard with the E450 powertrain. The E's dashboard arguably suffers from a case of screen overload (at least the passenger-side screen is optional if you want to skip it), but it's otherwise hard to find fault with this lineup."—Ranked #1 out of 9 Midsize Luxury Sedans
Which 2025 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Should I Buy?

1. 2025 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E350 (2.0T Rear-Wheel Drive)
- Base Price: $62,450
- MPG Combined: 28
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.0-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 9-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 255
- Torque: 295 lb-ft
- Weight: 4,134 lbs
- Length: 194.9 in
The base E-Class sedan is a delight to drive, doing a decent impression of a sport sedan in tight corners while absorbing bumps with aplomb. Would we be satisfied with four cylinders under the hood? Not completely, but the latest E350 is a compelling package overall.
2. 2025 Mercedes-Benz E350 4MATIC (2.0T All-Wheel Drive)
- Base Price: $64,950
- MPG Combined: 27
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.0-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 9-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 255
- Torque: 295 lb-ft
- 0-60: 6.1 sec
- Weight: 4,189 lbs
- Length: 194.9 in
Adding all-wheel drive to the base E-Class doesn't affect much beyond the price, so it comes down to whether the added peace of mind is worth it to you. If you ask us, today's stability control systems are so good at keeping cars pointed straight ahead that we'd rather skip the extra weight and complexity of AWD.
3. 2025 Mercedes-Benz E450 4MATIC (3.0T All-Wheel Drive)
- Base Price: $70,850
- MPG Combined: 25
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 3.0-liter inline-6
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 9-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 375
- Torque: 369 lb-ft
- 0-60: 4.4 sec
- Weight: 4,376 lbs
- Length: 194.9 in
Is the E450 the ultimate E-Class sedan? If you bring value into the equation, there's certainly an argument to be made. For less than $70k to start, the E450 sprints to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds on the strength of an eerily smooth turbocharged inline-6 engine. Cruising on the highway? The EPA says you'll get 31 mpg, despite AWD being standard. If you want more flash, that's where AMG comes in, but the E450 4MATIC sedan is all understated substance.
4. 2025 Mercedes-Benz E450 4MATIC All-Terrain (3.0T AWD)
- Base Price: $76,100
- MPG Combined: 25
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 3.0-liter inline-6
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 9-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 375
- Torque: 369 lb-ft
- 0-60: 4.6 sec
- Weight: 4,575 lbs
- Length: 194.9 in
The E450 All Terrain is a pretty awesome ride. How many other vehicles can do 0-60 in 4.6 seconds, tow up to 4,600 pounds and get 31 mpg on the highway? By the way, the All Terrain somehow isn't even a fraction of an inch longer than the E-Class sedan, despite all that versatility. Long live the wagon!
5. 2025 Mercedes-Benz AMG E53 (3.0T PHEV AWD)
- Base Price: $88,000
- MPG Combined: N/A
- EV Range: 42 mi
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 3.0-liter inline-6
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 9-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 577
- Torque: 553 lb-ft
- 0-60: 3.9 sec
- Weight: 4,244 lbs
- Length: 194.9 in
The AMG E53 is in the odd position of being the only plug-in-hybrid E-Class, despite its narrow performance focus and insane 577-horsepower output. Look past the flash, however, and you'll find a highly impressive PHEV, from the 40-plus miles of electric range to the robust electric motor, which pumps out 161 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque by itself. Many PHEVs lack acceleration in electric mode, but the AMG E53 won't be one of them. This is a very cool car.
