Is the 2025 BMW X4 a Good SUV?
"Unlike its X3 brethren, the X4 is not redesigned for 2025, but that's not really a problem. We already considered these near-twins to be among the very best compact luxury SUVs, and the X4 continues to be a top SUV coupe even without a redesign. The engineering and all-around package are that good."—Ranked #1 out of 4 Compact Luxury SUV Coupes
Which 2025 BMW X4 Should I Buy?

1. 2025 BMW X4 xDrive30i (2.0T All-Wheel Drive)
- Base Price: $55,300
- MPG Combined: 24
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.0-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 248
- Torque: 258 lb-ft
- 0-60: 6.0 sec
- Weight: 4,178 lbs
- Length: 187.6 in
- Towing Capacity: N/A
The X4 xDrive30i shows its age for 2025, treading water while the X3 gets a full redesign. That means the entry-level X3 has the latest version of BMW's turbo four-cylinder engine, which is both stronger and much more fuel-efficient, while the X4 soldiers on with the previous version.
2. 2025 BMW X4 M40i (3.0T All-Wheel Drive)
- Base Price: $66,700
- MPG Combined: 23
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 3.0-liter inline-6
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 382
- Torque: 369 lb-ft
- 0-60: 4.4 sec
- Weight: 4,403 lbs
- Length: 187.6 in
- Towing Capacity: N/A
While the M40i remains the X4 to have, in our opinion, it's also showing its age for 2025. The B58 turbo inline-6 is still a work of art, but the X4 M40i's version of this engine is less impressive than the more powerful and far more fuel-efficient version found in the redesigned 2025 X3.
3. 2025 BMW X4 M
- Base Price: $79,100
- MPG Combined: 17
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 3.0-liter inline-6
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 473
- Torque: 457 lb-ft
- 0-60: 3.9 sec
- Weight: 4,597 lbs
- Length: 187.5 in
- Towing Capacity: N/A
2025 could be the end of the road for the X4 M, so if you've always had a thing for this high-riding hatchback with 500-ish horsepower, it's time to make your move. The formerly related X3 has already moved on with a full redesign for 2025 that does not include a true M model.
4. 2025 BMW X4 M Competition
- Base Price: $86,100
- MPG Combined: 17
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 3.0-liter inline-6
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 503
- Torque: 479 lb-ft
- 0-60: 3.7 sec
- Weight: 4,597 lbs
- Length: 187.5 in
- Towing Capacity: N/A
You might as well spring for the X4 Competition, right? What's another $7k at this price point? You get even more power, special 21-inch wheels and a set of nifty sport seats.
