What's New for 2024?
The current XC90 once again carries over unchanged as it enters its jaw-dropping 9th year of production for 2025. There's no denying its understated good looks, but little else is truly competitive anymore about Volvo's venerable midsize SUV. Note that a significant refresh — but not a full redesign — is in store for 2025.

Which 2024 Volvo XC90 Plug-In Hybrid Should I Buy?
MotorDonkey's proprietary vehicle data identifies every significant version of each model so that you can compare and decide. There's only one standalone version of the 2024 Volvo XC90 Plug-In Hybrid, and here it is, along with our expert analysis and recommendations.

The XC90 PHEV is frankly the only truly competitive variant in the lineup. Whereas the non-hybrid B5 and B6 struggle to keep up with swifter and more fuel-efficient rivals, the Recharge T8 plug-in-hybrid powertrain solves all of that with its prodigious 455-horsepower output and useful 32 miles of all-electric range, which gives way to a respectable rating of 27 mpg in mixed driving in gas-electric hybrid mode. You'll obviously pay a lot more to get into an XC90 Recharge T8, but it's the only XC90 we can recommend.
