What's New for 2025?
The CX-70 debuts this year as a two-row version of the CX-90. Oddly, it's exactly as long as the CX-90 and uses the same powertrains, so it's basically the same model without the third-row seat, but Mazda chose to use different nomenclature for it. So it goes.

Is the 2025 Mazda CX-70 a Good SUV?
"The first thing to know about the CX-70 is that it's exactly the same length as the three-row CX-90 family hauler, which puts it on the verge of full-size dimensions. This is a rather long midsize SUV, in other words. If you're cool with that, you might also like the CX-70's turbocharged inline-6 engine; it's less speedy than the spec sheet would suggest, but it still feels more special than most motors in this class, and it's remarkably fuel-efficient for a six. There's also a four-cylinder plug-in-hybrid variant that offers 26 miles of electric range and slightly quicker acceleration. Either way, the CX-70 is uncommonly engaging to drive, which we find more than compensates for its fiddly knob-controlled infotainment screen that's also a touchscreen if your arm's long enough to reach it."—Ranked #2 out of 9 Midsize SUVs

1. 2025 Mazda CX-70 3.3T All-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $40,445
- MPG Combined: 25
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 3.3-liter inline-6
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 280
- Torque: 332 lb-ft
- Weight: 4,709 lbs
- Length: 200.8 in
- Towing Capacity: 5,000 lbs
If you're wondering how Mazda only got 280 horsepower out of a turbocharged 3.3-liter inline-6, you're not alone. We can't figure that out either. But the entry-level CX-70 does bring a lot of functionality to the table for just over 40 grand to start, and 0-60 in 6.2 seconds is fully respectable for this class.
2. 2025 Mazda CX-70 3.3T S All-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $52,450
- MPG Combined: 25
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 3.3-liter inline-6
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 340
- Torque: 369 lb-ft
- 0-60: 6.2 sec
- Weight: 4,863 lbs
- Length: 200.8 in
- Towing Capacity: 5,000 lbs
340 horsepower is more like it for a turbocharged six-cylinder engine, but the CX-70's starting price with the "S" engine tune is about $12k more than that of the base model. How much is 60 horsepower worth to you? We're not sure it'd be worth that much to us.
3. 2025 Mazda CX-70 Plug-In Hybrid (2.5 AWD)
- Base Price: $54,400
- MPG Combined: 25
- EV Range: 26 mi
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.5-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 323
- Torque: 369 lb-ft
- 0-60: 5.9 sec
- Weight: 5,198 lbs
- Length: 200.8 in
- Towing Capacity: 3,500 lbs
The CX-70 Plug-In Hybrid offers a rather measly 25 miles of all-electric range, but on the bright side, there's plenty of power. Also disappointing, however, is the CX-70 PHEV's EPA estimate of 25 mpg combined, which is exactly the number that the non-hybrid CX-70 models are rated at.
