Is the 2025 Lexus RX a Good SUV?
"The RX continues to deliver in the sales column for Lexus, and there's no mystery as to why. That sterling Lexus reputation for reliability and resale value is a great place to start, but more than that, the current model offers satisfying turbocharged power in RX 350 trim along with no fewer than three hybrid alternatives. The frugal RX 350h delivers efficiency at the cost of some pep, while the 366-horsepower RX 500h solves the acceleration problem and the plug-in-hybrid RX 450h+ gives you the option of skipping gas stations entirely. No matter which spec you choose, you'll enjoy RX fundamentals like a supple ride and superb isolation from the elements. Unexpectedly skimpy cargo space is one of the few negatives."—Ranked #4 out of 11 Midsize Luxury SUVs

1. 2025 Lexus RX 350 (2.4T 8-Speed Automatic)
- Base Price: $48,975
- MPG Combined: 25
- Drive Type: Front-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.4-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 275
- Torque: 317 lb-ft
- 0-60: 7.6 sec
- Weight: 4,155 lbs
- Length: 192.5 in
- Towing Capacity: 3,494 lbs
Offered seemingly forever with a naturally aspirated V6 engine, the RX 350 has moved on to the world of turbocharging for this generation, sharing its 2.4-liter turbo four-cylinder with the smaller NX 350. It gets the job done, but neither the acceleration nor the fuel economy is particularly good.
2. 2025 Lexus RX 350 AWD (2.4T 8-Speed Automatic)
- Base Price: $50,575
- MPG Combined: 24
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.4-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 275
- Torque: 317 lb-ft
- 0-60: 7.2 sec
- Weight: 4,310 lbs
- Length: 192.5 in
- Towing Capacity: 3,494 lbs
Adding all-wheel drive to the RX 350 doesn't boost the weight too much and only costs you a single mpg — and $1,600.
3. 2025 Lexus RX 350h AWD (2.5 Hybrid CVT)
- Base Price: $51,125
- MPG Combined: 36
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.5-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: CVT
- Horsepower: 246
- Torque: 233 lb-ft
- 0-60: 7.4 sec
- Weight: 4,455 lbs
- Length: 192.5 in
- Towing Capacity: 3,494 lbs
Sharing its hybrid powertrain with the smaller NX 350h, the RX 350h offers most of its lesser sibling's efficiency and acceleration while increasing interior space considerably.
4. 2025 Lexus RX 500h AWD (2.4T Hybrid 6-Speed Automatic)
- Base Price: $64,800
- MPG Combined: 27
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.4-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 6-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 366
- Torque: 406 lb-ft
- 0-60: 5.9 sec
- Weight: 4,750 lbs
- Length: 192.5 in
- Towing Capacity: 3,494 lbs
Just in case the hybrid-powered RX 350h doesn't have enough juice for your taste, Lexus also offers the RX 500h, which comes only in "F SPORT" trim to drive home the performance theme. Adding more than 100 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque thanks to a completely different engine (2.4T) and transmission (6-speed auto), the RX 500h is very much its own entity. The fuel economy takes a dive, though, falling short of 30 mpg on the highway, so you'll have to decide how much that matters.
5. 2025 Lexus RX 450h+ AWD (2.5 Plug-In Hybrid CVT)
- Base Price: $71,260
- MPG Combined: 35
- EV Range: 37 mi
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.5-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: CVT
- Horsepower: 304
- Torque: N/A
- 0-60: 6.2 sec
- Weight: 4,800 lbs
- Length: 192.5 in
- Towing Capacity: 3,494 lbs
The plug-in-hybrid RX 450h+ is yet another RX model that shares its powertrain with the smaller NX crossover, which in turn borrows this specific PHEV powertrain from the Toyota RAV4 Prime. How's that for a family reunion? Fortunately, this powertrain delivers impressive electric range, fuel economy and acceleration wherever it's found.
