Is the 2025 Lexus NX a Good SUV?
"The NX experience is all about the engine you choose. Unlike many rivals with their peppy turbocharged four-cylinder engines, the entry-level NX 250 starts out with essentially the same non-turbo four that powers its corporate cousin, the Toyota RAV4. That 203-horsepower mill might be good enough in a $30k Toyota, but it doesn't cut it in a $40k-plus Lexus. Accordingly, we consider the turbocharged NX 350 (about $45k to start) to be the real entry-level option here. It gives you 275 hp and 0-60 in the mid-6-second range, which are numbers more befitting of the Lexus badge. The NX also provides the well-trimmed interior and smooth, quiet ride that Lexus shoppers expect, and the available hybrid and plug-in-hybrid variants give you highly efficient choices that aren't available elsewhere."—Ranked #3 out of 16 Compact Luxury SUVs

1. 2025 Lexus NX 250 (2.5 8-Speed Automatic)
- Base Price: $40,815
- MPG Combined: 28
- Drive Type: Front-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.5-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 203
- Torque: 184 lb-ft
- 0-60: 8.6 sec
- Weight: 3,660 lbs
- Length: 183.5 in
- Towing Capacity: 2,000 lbs
The entry-level NX used to have a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that set it apart from the Toyota RAV4 on which it's based, but now Lexus has dropped that pretense and installed the very same 2.5-liter naturally aspirated four that powers the NX's corporate cousin. Since the NX is loaded up with luxury features, it's even slower than the RAV4 — that 0-60 time is seriously ponderous for a luxury SUV.
2. 2025 Lexus NX 250 AWD (2.5 8-Speed Automatic)
- Base Price: $42,415
- MPG Combined: 28
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.5-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 203
- Torque: 184 lb-ft
- 0-60: 8.2 sec
- Weight: 3,790 lbs
- Length: 183.5 in
- Towing Capacity: 2,000 lbs
Lexus says that the NX 250 AWD gets to 60 mph nearly half a second sooner than the front-drive version, even though AWD adds weight and the engine is the same. That would make some sense if the NX 250 had enough power to create significant wheelspin off the line...which it doesn't. In any case, just keep in mind that this is one of the slowest small luxury SUVs on the market.
3. 2025 Lexus NX 350 AWD (2.4T 8-Speed Automatic)
- Base Price: $44,575
- MPG Combined: 24
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.4-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 275
- Torque: 317 lb-ft
- 0-60: 6.6 sec
- Weight: 4,035 lbs
- Length: 183.5 in
- Towing Capacity: 2,000 lbs
The NX 350 is probably more what luxury SUV shoppers have in mind when they think about premium small SUVs. Why? Because unlike the base NX 250, the NX 350, which comes standard with all-wheel drive, actually has enough power to get out of its own way. Boasting a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with plenty of oomph, the NX 350 achieves respectability, if not supremacy, compared to the best from Germany.
4. 2025 Lexus NX 350h AWD (2.5 Hybrid CVT)
- Base Price: $45,125
- MPG Combined: 39
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.5-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: CVT
- Horsepower: 239
- Torque: N/A
- 0-60: 7.2 sec
- Weight: 4,080 lbs
- Length: 183.5 in
- Towing Capacity: 2,000 lbs
Priced about the same as the turbocharged NX 350, the hybrid-powered NX 350h is an interesting alternative. It's massively better on gas, not surprisingly, but it's also not as slow as you might think. Our hearts are with the turbo, but our minds might pick the fuel-sipper.
5. 2025 Lexus NX 450h+ AWD (2.5 Plug-In Hybrid CVT)
- Base Price: $61,240
- MPG Combined: 36
- EV Range: 37 mi
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.5-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: CVT
- Horsepower: 302
- Torque: N/A
- 0-60: 6.0 sec
- Weight: 4,475 lbs
- Length: 183.5 in
- Towing Capacity: 2,000 lbs
The first thing that stands out about the NX 450h+ PHEV is how expensive it is relative to the rest of the NX lineup. If you're willing to pony up the extra cash, the plug-in NX rewards you with a useful 37-mile range on battery power alone, plus the swiftest acceleration of any NX when you floor it to activate the gas engine.
