What's New for 2025?
A new base SE model joins the fray and makes a splash with its reduced price and significantly better fuel-economy rating from the EPA (32 mpg combined versus 29 mpg for the front-drive SEL). Also, the N Line gets air vents on the back of the center console for rear passengers. The Sonata otherwise carries over unchanged.

Is the 2025 Hyundai Sonata a Good Car?
"Boasting three distinct powertrains — the standard four-cylinder alongside the Hybrid and the high-performance N Line turbo — the Sonata offers exceptional variety for a family sedan, which is why we give it a slight edge over its Kia K5 platform-mate. It doesn't hurt that the Sonata's recent design overhaul made it one of the most stylish cars in this segment. That goes for the interior, too, which features Hyundai's ultra-wide, dual-screen infotainment module that makes every dashboard it graces look like a technological tour de force."—Ranked #3 out of 7 Midsize Sedans

1. 2025 Hyundai Sonata 2.5 Front-Wheel Drive (SE)
- Base Price: $26,650
- MPG Combined: 32
- Drive Type: Front-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.5-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 191
- Torque: 181 lb-ft
- Weight: 3,305 lbs

The base Sonata SE is yet another strong effort across the board from Hyundai. If you just want a no-nonsense sedan and the Elantra's smaller size cramps your style, the Sonata SE is an easy choice.
2. 2025 Hyundai Sonata 2.5 Front-Wheel Drive (SEL)
- Base Price: $27,750
- MPG Combined: 29
- Drive Type: Front-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.5-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 191
- Torque: 181 lb-ft
- Weight: 3,305 lbs
- Length: 193.3 in
The Sonata SEL gets upsized wheels and more equipment than the base SE, and the EPA says you'll take a 3-mpg hit in combined fuel economy as a result.
3. 2025 Hyundai Sonata 2.5 All-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $29,250
- MPG Combined: 28
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.5-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 191
- Torque: 181 lb-ft
- Weight: 3,466 lbs
- Length: 193.3 in
Adding all-wheel drive to the Sonata 2.5 SEL costs you $1,500 and a single mile per gallon in combined driving.
4. 2025 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid
- Base Price: $31,000
- MPG Combined: 47
- Drive Type: Front-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.0-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 6-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 192
- Torque: N/A
- Weight: 3,439 lbs
- Length: 193.3 in
The Sonata Hybrid is notable for having worse fuel economy in the city than on the highway; usually it's the other way around with hybrids, thanks to electric assist at low speeds. But 44 mpg city is still fantastic, and you should be able to get past the 50-mpg barrier on the highway.
5. 2025 Hyundai Sonata N-Line (2.5T Front-Wheel Drive)
- Base Price: $35,250
- MPG Combined: 27
- Drive Type: Front-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.5-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 8-speed automated manual
- Horsepower: 290
- Torque: 311 lb-ft
- 0-60: 5.0 sec
- Weight: 3,534 lbs
- Length: 193.3 in
Hitting 60 mph in 5 seconds flat gives the Sonata N Line the acceleration crown among mainstream family sedans, and it's not even close. Buckle up, kids!
