Is the 2025 Ford Maverick a Good Truck?
"Offering either a zesty turbo four-cylinder engine or a frugal hybrid powertrain, the Maverick has turned out to be a right-sized truck with broad appeal. Significant updates for 2025 further sweeten the deal, including fresh styling for the front fascia, available AWD for the hybrid variant and a 13.2-inch touchscreen inside. The turbocharged Maverick is a heck of a deal for just over $27k to start, as it gets you to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds and still delivers 25 mpg combined with standard AWD (the front-drive version has been discontinued). We're less enamored of the hybrid due to its relatively lackluster acceleration, but there's no doubt that the Maverick offers big value across the lineup."—Ranked #1 out of 2 Compact Trucks
Which 2025 Ford Maverick Should I Buy?

1. 2025 Ford Maverick Hybrid Front-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $26,995
- MPG Combined: 38
- Drive Type: Front-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.5-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: CVT
- Horsepower: 191
- Torque: N/A
- 0-60: 7.7 sec
- Weight: 3,674 lbs
- Length: 199.8 in
- Towing Capacity: 4,000 lbs
- Payload Capacity: 1,500 lbs
The Maverick Hybrid is all about fuel economy, so stick with the far quicker 2.0T if you're not looking to maximize your MPG. But there's no doubt that the Hybrid is impressively efficient for a truck, or really for any vehicle, delivering more than 40 mpg in the city — twice what you can expect to get in the Maverick 2.0T. We'd advise stepping up to the AWD version, however, as the front-driver is only barely better on gas.
2. 2025 Ford Maverick 2.0T All-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $27,570
- MPG Combined: 25
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.0-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 238
- Torque: 275 lb-ft
- 0-60: 5.9 sec
- Weight: 3,731 lbs
- Length: 199.8 in
- Towing Capacity: 4,000 lbs
- Payload Capacity: 1,500 lbs
Not all Maverick 2.0T AWD examples can tow 4,000 pounds — you need the 4K Towing package for that — but whether you need to tow that much or not, you'll find a lot of goodness in this package. In fact, the Maverick 2.0T is one of the best values in all of autodom. All-wheel drive is now standard, but you probably didn't want a front-wheel-drive truck anyway, and the base price still comes in well under $30k. Under the hood, the robust 238-horsepower turbocharged engine (downrated by 12 hp in 2025 for arcane reasons; it's the same engine) leaves the Maverick Hybrid in the dust and makes this little truck genuinely fun to drive. Compare the Maverick 2.0T to the far more expensive turbocharged Santa Cruz and the magnitude of its value will become even clearer.
3. 2025 Ford Maverick Hybrid All-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $29,215
- MPG Combined: 37
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.5-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: CVT
- Horsepower: 191
- Torque: N/A
- Length: 199.8 in
- Towing Capacity: 4,000 lbs
- Payload Capacity: 1,400 lbs
The Hybrid AWD nixes one of the Maverick's primary Cons through 2024 — namely, that the Hybrid was only offered with front-wheel drive. We'd still lean toward the 2.0T AWD because its acceleration is so much better, but if you've been holding off on the Hybrid because you wanted all-wheel drive, you're in luck.
