Is the 2025 Chevrolet Corvette a Good Car?
"The iconic Corvette has been a mid-engine supercar for years now, and most would agree that it's never been better, although some certainly miss the previous generation's long-nose proportions and manual transmission. Anyway, the Corvette's wide range of powertrains and feature sets make it a compelling solution for almost any sports-car shopper. Its value, meanwhile, is second to none in this class."—Ranked #2 out of 6 Luxury Sports Cars

1. 2025 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupe (6.2 Rear-Wheel Drive)
- Base Price: $68,300
- MPG Combined: 19
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 6.2-liter V8
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 8-speed automated manual
- Horsepower: 490
- Torque: 465 lb-ft
- 0-60: 2.8 sec
- Weight: 3,366 lbs
- Length: 182.3 in
We're not big C8 boosters, unlike seemingly most of the internet, but we can't argue with the performance-per-dollar aspect. The truth is that even the base Corvette Stingray is more car than most mortals can handle. You might want to upgrade to the Z51 or one of the higher-output variants, but the standard spec already requires a racing license, effectively, if you want to explore its limits.
2. 2025 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z51 Coupe (6.2 Rear-Wheel Drive)
- Base Price: $74,645
- MPG Combined: 19
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 6.2-liter V8
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 8-speed automated manual
- Horsepower: 495
- Torque: 470 lb-ft
- 0-60: 2.8 sec
- Weight: 3,366 lbs
- Length: 182.3 in
It's easy to overlook the Z51 because its engine output is virtually the same as that of the base Stingray. But there's a lot going on here for an extra $6k or so, including a manually adjustable suspension, upgraded Brembo brakes, a shorter rear end (final drive ratio) for even more responsive acceleration, an electronic limited-slip differential...the list goes on. In fact, the performance exhaust, which is why the Z51 is rated at 5 more hp than the base car, just might be the least significant of the upgrades.
3. 2025 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible (6.2 Rear-Wheel Drive)
- Base Price: $75,300
- MPG Combined: 19
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 6.2-liter V8
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 8-speed automated manual
- Horsepower: 490
- Torque: 465 lb-ft
- 0-60: 2.8 sec
- Weight: 3,467 lbs
- Length: 182.3 in
The Corvette convertible is a fun one because its specs are almost identical to those of the coupe, owing to the midengine layout. Why? Because, as you may already understand, there's a whole engine between the passenger compartment and the trunk, so you're not going to have the convertible top folding into the trunk and taking up cargo space like convertible tops usually do. We say "almost identical" because the convertible does weigh a bit more than the coupe, but it's basically the same car. For our money, the coupe wins on the grounds that you save $7k and still get a removable roof panel if you want to let the sun in.
4. 2025 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z51 Convertible (6.2 Rear-Wheel Drive)
- Base Price: $81,645
- MPG Combined: 19
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 6.2-liter V8
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 8-speed automated manual
- Horsepower: 495
- Torque: 470 lb-ft
- 0-60: 2.8 sec
- Weight: 3,467 lbs
- Length: 182.3 in
Adding the Z51 package to the base Corvette Stingray convertible will certainly boost its performance bona fides, but we're a bit skeptical of how much owners will actually leverage these upgrades. Coupe owners, sure, we can see it. But if you buy a Corvette convertible, are you really thinking about taking it to a track day, which is where the Z51 upgrades really shine? Maybe keep that $6k-plus in your pocket, since you're already shelling out an extra $7k just to get the convertible.
5. 2025 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray Coupe (6.2 Hybrid All-Wheel Drive)
- Base Price: $106,900
- MPG Combined: 19
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 6.2-liter V8
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 8-speed automated manual
- Horsepower: 655
- Torque: 592 lb-ft
- 0-60: 2.5 sec
- Weight: 3,774 lbs
- Length: 184.6 in
The E-Ray is an all-wheel-drive Corvette hybrid, which would have been a strange thing to say before right now. But it's pretty cool when you consider that the electric motor bumps up total horsepower to 655 while barely affecting the EPA's fuel economy estimates. Not that the base Corvette needed more speed, but the E-Ray's got some for free (well, in the fuel-economy sense) if you want it.
6. 2025 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Coupe (5.5 Rear-Wheel Drive)
- Base Price: $112,100
- MPG Combined: 14
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 5.5-liter V8
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 8-speed automated manual
- Horsepower: 670
- Torque: 460 lb-ft
- 0-60: 2.6 sec
- Weight: 3,500 lbs
- Length: 184.6 in
The Z06 is a dream car, obviously, but in case you aren't up on the latest Corvette news, the engine for the C8 Z06 is a special dual-overhead-cam 5.5-liter V8 with a flat-plane crankshaft. What does that mean? Well, Ferrari likes to use these technologies in its engines, so you can expect a spine-tingling wail as you rev the Z06 higher. But that's the thing: You really have to rev it to get the numbers, with peak power arriving way up next to the 8,600-rpm redline. It's still a super fast car at half those revs, but the regular Corvette does deliver its full output sooner, while the E-Ray slugs you with torque down low that the Z06 doesn't have. You can't go wrong in the C8 Corvette family, but just keep in mind that unlike the C7 Z06, which had a supercharged V8 with tons of low-end torque, the C8 is a screamer.
7. 2025 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray Convertible (6.2 Hybrid All-Wheel Drive)
- Base Price: $113,900
- MPG Combined: 19
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 6.2-liter V8
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 8-speed automated manual
- Horsepower: 655
- Torque: 592 lb-ft
- 0-60: 2.5 sec
- Weight: 3,856 lbs
- Length: 184.6 in
The E-Ray doesn't strike us as a wind-in-your-hair kind of car, but there would certainly be a lot of wind if you put the top down and floored it. We'd prefer the Z06 to maximize the sound factor when the throttle's mashed, but to each their own.
8. 2025 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Convertible (5.5 Rear-Wheel Drive)
- Base Price: $119,100
- MPG Combined: 14
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 5.5-liter V8
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 8-speed automated manual
- Horsepower: 670
- Torque: 460 lb-ft
- 0-60: 2.6 sec
- Weight: 3,599 lbs
- Length: 184.6 in
If you're gonna get a convertible C8 Corvette, we think the Z06 is the one to have. Not a controversial opinion, we realize, but that flat-plane-crank V8 makes an excellent case for coming up with, well, another $45k or so (gulp!) versus the base Stingray convertible. It's the soundtrack you want to hear with the top down.
9. 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 Coupe
- Base Price: $173,300
- MPG Combined: 14
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 5.5-liter V8
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 8-speed automated manual
- Horsepower: 1,064
- Torque: 828 lb-ft
- 0-60: 2.3 sec
- Weight: 3,670 lbs
- Length: 185.9 in
It takes a special kind of speed demon to conclude that the rest of the Corvette lineup just isn't fast enough, but if that sounds like you, the ZR-1 is the logical solution. Capable of hitting 60 mph from rest in 2.3 seconds if you check the box for the ZTK package (the standard ZR-1 does the deed in a serviceable 2.5 seconds), the ZR-1 clearly has no issues connecting its twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8's 1,064 horsepower with the pavement.
10. 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 Convertible
- Base Price: $183,300
- MPG Combined: 14
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 5.5-liter V8
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 8-speed automated manual
- Horsepower: 1,064
- Torque: 828 lb-ft
- 0-60: 2.3 sec
- Weight: 3,771 lbs
- Length: 184.6 in
Having 1,064 horsepower at your disposal and the wind in your hair is going to be quite a rush. That's the appeal of the ZR-1 convertible in a nutshell. We prefer the Z06 convertible with its naturally aspirated version of the ZR-1's twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8, but if you want a lot more torque down low in the rev range, the ZR-1 is a better solution.
