Is the 2025 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible a Good Car?
"The drop-top Corvette actually looks better than the coupe, we think, as you get those cool fairings behind the headrests. You also get to hear a glorious V8 soundtrack no matter which of the various 'Vette models you choose."—Ranked #2 out of 6 Premium Luxury Convertibles

1. 2025 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible (6.2 Rear-Wheel Drive)
- Base Price: $75,300
- MPG Combined: 19
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 6.2-liter V8
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 8-speed automated manual
- Horsepower: 490
- Torque: 465 lb-ft
- 0-60: 2.8 sec
- Weight: 3,467 lbs
- Length: 182.3 in
The Corvette convertible is a fun one because its specs are almost identical to those of the coupe, owing to the midengine layout. Why? Because, as you may already understand, there's a whole engine between the passenger compartment and the trunk, so you're not going to have the convertible top folding into the trunk and taking up cargo space like convertible tops usually do. We say "almost identical" because the convertible does weigh a bit more than the coupe, but it's basically the same car. For our money, the coupe wins on the grounds that you save $7k and still get a removable roof panel if you want to let the sun in.
2. 2025 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z51 Convertible (6.2 Rear-Wheel Drive)
- Base Price: $81,645
- MPG Combined: 19
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 6.2-liter V8
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 8-speed automated manual
- Horsepower: 495
- Torque: 470 lb-ft
- 0-60: 2.8 sec
- Weight: 3,467 lbs
- Length: 182.3 in
Adding the Z51 package to the base Corvette Stingray convertible will certainly boost its performance bona fides, but we're a bit skeptical of how much owners will actually leverage these upgrades. Coupe owners, sure, we can see it. But if you buy a Corvette convertible, are you really thinking about taking it to a track day, which is where the Z51 upgrades really shine? Maybe keep that $6k-plus in your pocket, since you're already shelling out an extra $7k just to get the convertible.
3. 2025 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray Convertible (6.2 Hybrid All-Wheel Drive)
- Base Price: $113,900
- MPG Combined: 19
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 6.2-liter V8
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 8-speed automated manual
- Horsepower: 655
- Torque: 592 lb-ft
- 0-60: 2.5 sec
- Weight: 3,856 lbs
- Length: 184.6 in
The E-Ray doesn't strike us as a wind-in-your-hair kind of car, but there would certainly be a lot of wind if you put the top down and floored it. We'd prefer the Z06 to maximize the sound factor when the throttle's mashed, but to each their own.
4. 2025 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Convertible (5.5 Rear-Wheel Drive)
- Base Price: $119,100
- MPG Combined: 14
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 5.5-liter V8
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 8-speed automated manual
- Horsepower: 670
- Torque: 460 lb-ft
- 0-60: 2.6 sec
- Weight: 3,599 lbs
- Length: 184.6 in
If you're gonna get a convertible C8 Corvette, we think the Z06 is the one to have. Not a controversial opinion, we realize, but that flat-plane-crank V8 makes an excellent case for coming up with, well, another $45k or so (gulp!) versus the base Stingray convertible. It's the soundtrack you want to hear with the top down.
