We love that you can get a manual even with the base V6 in the Camaro. It's a fun engine, too. Don't write this entry-level model off.
The Camaro with the V6/automatic tandem may sound like a sporty upgrade at the rental counter, but it's actually pretty cool on its own merits. The V6 hauls the mail and sounds fierce, too.
We'll believe that Chevy actually sold any manual-transmission Camaro V6 convertibles when we see one, but we gotta tip our cap to Chevy for at least including this specification in the specs this year. That V6 is a screamer, and with the top down, we can imagine it's pretty thrilling.
If "Camaro convertible V6 automatic" has you thinking about what to rent on your next vacation, we're with you. But just like the rival Mustang, the base Camaro convertible has become a genuinely good car — one that any drop-top shopper might want to consider.
Count us in for the manual Camaro SS coupe, anytime. The outward visibility stinks, but everything else about driving the car is fantastic.

There aren't many convertibles left that offer a V8 and a manual transmission, but that's not the Camaro SS convertible's only claim to fame. This Camaro has an excellent chassis underneath, enabling sportscar-grade handling.
Put the top down and let that V8 sing. Sure, a Camaro that starts at $50k might give some shoppers pause, but when you consider that it's a 455-horsepower Camaro with agility to spare, you realize that there aren't many cars like it for the price.
The manual ZL1 coupe's 3.7-second dash to 60 mph only tells part of the story, as there's just not enough traction off the line to harness all of that power. But forget about the numbers; the reason to buy this car is to have that sublime LT4 supercharged V8 at your disposal, operating in whatever gear you see fit.
The automatic ZL1 coupe is even quicker than the manual, but as absurd as the numbers are (3.4 seconds to 60?!), this isn't a numbers car. It's about the supercharger whine and the otherworldly torque no matter what gear you're in. The LT4 is a great engine; you should get one if you can.
There's not really another car like the manual ZL1 convertible, if we're talking about four-seat convertibles with clutch pedals and supercharged V8s. If you can find one, you should probably buy it.
There are many impressive things about the ZL1, but one thing that stands out is how little weight the automatic transmission adds — just 31 pounds. Given the ZL1's insane performance, its sub-4,200-pound curb weight is rather light for a four-seat convertible.
