The entry-level CT4 is a sporty drive in general, but the powertrain lacks refinement compared to the segment's best.
Cadillac's $2k fee for AWD is typical for this class, but the relatively low fuel economy numbers show that this powertrain is behind the times.
The 2.7-liter turbo four is short on character, but it does whisk you to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds, per Cadillac, which puts it in a league with some serious sport sedans.
We're not impressed by the 2.7T AWD's fuel economy, but if you want an all-wheel-drive performance sedan under $50k, this CT4 variant is in the conversation.
Cadillac quotes the same 4.8-second sprint to 60 mph for both the regular CT4 with the optional 2.7-liter turbo four and the CT4-V, which makes sense when you look at the numbers. The CT4-V uses the 2.7T as well, and although it squeezes 15 more horsepower out of that engine, that's cancelled out by the V's extra weight.
Adding all-wheel drive to the CT4-V is about as painless as it gets. Cadillac only charges you 500 bucks for it, and you only lose a single mile per gallon on the highway.
The CT4-V Blackwing wants to play with sport-sedan luminaries like the M3, and it's in the game thanks to blistering acceleration from the turbo V6, plus nimble handling from the athletic chassis. The manual shifter is a rare treat for those who enjoy three pedals.
The Blackwing remains compelling with the automatic, delivering acceleration that's on par with Germany's finest — and beating the Germans on price.
