The X3 M gets to 60 mph half a second quicker than the X3 M40i, which uses a lesser version of BMW's superb turbo inline-6 engine. Is that half-second worth an extra $15k or so? We think not, but you could also argue that $15k is a bargain for the X3 M's sheer madness.
Add the Competition Package and you'll have a smallish SUV with 503 horsepower, which is something you don't see every day (unless perhaps you live in LA). For $7k, that almost seems like a good deal. If you're gonna spring for the X3 M, why stop at the base model?
