What's New for 2025?
The X3 kicks off a new generation this year with reinvented styling (for better or worse), standard all-wheel drive, tweaked engines that yield much better fuel economy, and updated tech inside. It hasn't grown much — overall length increases by about an inch, while the wheelbase stays the same. As of this writing, no X3 M variant is expected for this generation.

"The freshly redesigned X3's styling may be something of an acquired taste — to us, the previous-generation design was nearly perfect, and this one is not — but the rest of this SUV is fiercely competitive. The sedan-like fuel economy alone could tip the scales in its favor, but of course there's also BMW's latest iDrive tech inside, along with plenty of space for passengers and especially cargo. Want more power than the base four-cylinder turbo provides? The X3 M50's turbo inline-6 is arguably the best six-cylinder engine on the planet, pumping out nearly 400 horsepower with hardly any efficiency loss. Controversial looks aside, the new X3 comes up aces."—Ranked #1 out of 16 Compact Luxury SUVs

Now serving as the entry-level X3 because the rear-drive variant has been discontinued, the all-wheel-drive 2025 BMW X3 xDrive30 pulls the neat trick of improving fuel economy by a whopping 5 mpg combined while delivering the same acceleration as the previous model. That's thanks to a revamped turbocharged four-cylinder engine that incorporates 48-volt mild hybrid technology. Max towing does drop by about 400 pounds, but who's counting?
2. 2025 BMW X3 M50 (3.0T All-Wheel Drive)
- Base Price: $64,700
- MPG Combined: 27
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 3.0-liter inline-6

BMW's B58 turbocharged inline-6 engine has been wowing us in various applications for many years, but it may have reached new heights in the 2025 X3 M50. Consider that the M50 only trails the base four-cylinder xDrive30 by 2 mpg combined, per the EPA, despite making 138 more horsepower and getting to 60 mph 1.6 seconds sooner. That's just sorcery, although the B58's new 48-volt mild hybrid technology for 2025 certainly helps.
