- 2024 BMW i7 M70 (AWD w/21-inch wheels)
1. 2024 BMW i7 eDrive50 (RWD w/19-inch wheels)
- Base Price: $105,700
- Range: 321 mi
- Battery Capacity: 105.7 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 195 kW
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 1 electric motor
- Horsepower: 449
- Torque: 549 lb-ft
- 0-60: 5.3 sec
- Weight: 5,917 lbs
- Length: 212.2 in
The i7 eDrive50 generates big power from its single electric motor and can deliver well over 300 miles per charge. No surprise that even the base-model i7 is a star.
2. 2024 BMW i7 eDrive50 (RWD w/20-inch wheels)
- Base Price: $107,000
- Range: 301 mi
- Battery Capacity: 105.7 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 195 kW
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 1 electric motor
- Horsepower: 449
- Torque: 549 lb-ft
- 0-60: 5.3 sec
- Weight: 5,917 lbs
- Length: 212.2 in
Oddly, the EPA says that the 20-inch wheels — the middle option — return the worst efficiency and range of the bunch, and BMW doesn't seem to have objected. We initially figured that the EPA had its numbers backward for the 20s and 21s, but maybe not. We'll update this data if BMW can confirm that there was a mixup.
3. 2024 BMW i7 eDrive50 (RWD w/21-inch wheels)
- Base Price: $107,000
- Range: 311 mi
- Battery Capacity: 105.7 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 195 kW
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 1 electric motor
- Horsepower: 449
- Torque: 549 lb-ft
- 0-60: 5.3 sec
- Weight: 5,917 lbs
- Length: 212.2 in
It doesn't make sense that putting 21-inch wheels on the i7 could make it more efficient and more capable range-wise than it is with 20s. But that's what the EPA's website says, and BMW's website backs it up. We're trying to get to the bottom of it. And yes, you can add either 20s or 21s for the same $1,300 premium, so the two versions cost the same. Confused yet?
4. 2024 BMW i7 xDrive60 (AWD w/19-inch wheels)
- Base Price: $124,200
- Range: 317 mi
- Battery Capacity: 105.7 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 195 kW
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2 electric motors
- Horsepower: 536
- Torque: 549 lb-ft
- 0-60: 4.5 sec
- Weight: 5,917 lbs
- Length: 212.2 in
Compared to the rear-drive eDrive50, the all-wheel-drive i7 xDrive60 gets to 60 mph a lot sooner and barely loses any range. That's enough winning to make the xDrive60's elevated price go down easy.
5. 2024 BMW i7 xDrive60 (AWD w/20-inch wheels)
- Base Price: $124,200
- Range: 298 mi
- Battery Capacity: 105.7 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 195 kW
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 1 electric motor
- Horsepower: 536
- Torque: 549 lb-ft
- 0-60: 4.5 sec
- Weight: 5,917 lbs
- Length: 212.2 in
20-inch wheels are a no-cost option on the i7 xDrive60, but you lose almost 20 miles of range versus the standard 19-inchers.
6. 2024 BMW i7 xDrive60 (AWD w/21-inch wheels)
- Base Price: $125,500
- Range: 307 mi
- Battery Capacity: 105.7 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 195 kW
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2 electric motors
- Horsepower: 536
- Torque: 549 lb-ft
- 0-60: 4.5 sec
- Weight: 5,917 lbs
- Length: 212.2 in
Okay, riddle us this: By upsizing from 20-inch wheels to 21s, how could you possibly gain efficiency and range? It seems miraculous, but that's how the i7 xDrive60 rolls, according to the EPA and BMW. Since the 21s come cheap, we're not sure why anyone would go for the 20s. Either get the 19s and maximize range or get the 21s and come in second, right?
7. 2024 BMW i7 M70 (AWD w/20-inch wheels)
- Base Price: $168,500
- Range: 274 mi
- Battery Capacity: 105.7 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 195 kW
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2 electric motors
- Horsepower: 650
- Torque: 748 lb-ft
- 0-60: 3.5 sec
- Weight: 5,929 lbs
- Length: 212.2 in
BMW EVs seemingly don't mix well with 20-inch wheels, because here's another one with a lower range rating than the version with the 21-inch wheels.
8. 2024 BMW i7 M70 (AWD w/21-inch wheels)
- Base Price: $168,500
- Range: 291 mi
- Battery Capacity: 105.7 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 195 kW
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2 electric motors
- Horsepower: 650
- Torque: 748 lb-ft
- 0-60: 3.5 sec
- Weight: 5,929 lbs
- Length: 212.2 in
So get this: If you upgrade to the 21-inch wheels at no cost, you get better efficiency and more range. It may not surprise you that our recommendation is to upgrade to the 21s.
