1. 2024 BMW i4 eDrive35 (RWD w/18-inch wheels)
- Base Price: $52,200
- Range: 276 mi
- Battery Capacity: 70.2 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 180 kW
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 1 electric motor
- Horsepower: 282
- Torque: 295 lb-ft
- 0-60: 5.8 sec
- Weight: 4,553 lbs
- Length: 188.5 in
BMW's entry-level i4 EV delivers quick acceleration for a single-motor EV, but its range is no great shakes.
2. 2024 BMW i4 eDrive35 (RWD w/19-inch wheels)
- Base Price: $52,800
- Range: 252 mi
- Battery Capacity: 70.2 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 180 kW
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 1 electric motor
- Horsepower: 282
- Torque: 295 lb-ft
- 0-60: 5.8 sec
- Weight: 4,553 lbs
- Length: 188.5 in
Whether you add 19-inch wheels a la carte or via the M Sport package, they'll cost you more than just what you pay up front. The bigger wheels chop 24 miles off the i4 eDrive35's maximum driving range.
3. 2024 BMW i4 eDrive40 (RWD w/18-inch wheels)
- Base Price: $57,300
- Range: 301 mi
- Battery Capacity: 83.9 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 200 kW
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 1 electric motor
- Horsepower: 335
- Torque: 317 lb-ft
- 0-60: 5.4 sec
- Weight: 4,665 lbs
- Length: 188.5 in
The eDrive40 gets into the sweet spot of the i4 lineup, delivering appreciably more range and power for a modest price premium. As with the base eDrive35, we advise resisting the temptation to get the bigger wheels, as you're just leaving extra range on the table (18 miles of it, to be exact).
4. 2024 BMW i4 eDrive40 (RWD w/19-inch wheels)
- Base Price: $57,900
- Range: 283 mi
- Battery Capacity: 83.9 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 200 kW
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 1 electric motor
- Horsepower: 335
- Torque: 317 lb-ft
- 0-60: 5.4 sec
- Weight: 4,680 lbs
- Length: 188.5 in
The upsized 19-inch wheels help the i4's appearance but hurt its maximum driving range, so it's important to keep that tradeoff in mind. All else being equal, you also get a smoother ride with smaller wheels.
5. 2024 BMW i4 xDrive40 (AWD w/18-inch wheels)
- Base Price: $61,600
- Range: 307 mi
- Battery Capacity: 83.9 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 200 kW
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2 electric motors
- Horsepower: 396
- Torque: 443 lb-ft
- 0-60: 4.9 sec
- Weight: 4,969 lbs
- Length: 188.5 in
If you want all-wheel drive in your i4, the dual-motor xDrive40 is the cheapest way to get it. There's nothing cheap about this car, though; it's delightfully well-rounded and provides lots of range and power.
6. 2024 BMW i4 xDrive40 (AWD w/19-inch wheels)
- Base Price: $62,200
- Range: 279 mi
- Battery Capacity: 83.9 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 200 kW
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2 electric motors
- Horsepower: 396
- Torque: 443 lb-ft
- 0-60: 4.9 sec
- Weight: 4,969 lbs
- Length: 188.5 in
The xDrive40 is a highly impressive dual-motor EV, but you can see how much those bigger wheels matter. Range plummets from 307 miles with the 18s to 279 with the 19s, a whopping 28-mile difference.
7. 2024 BMW i4 M50 (AWD w/19-inch wheels)
- Base Price: $69,700
- Range: 269 mi
- Battery Capacity: 83.9 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 200 kW
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2 electric motors
- Horsepower: 536
- Torque: 586 lb-ft
- 0-60: 3.7 sec
- Weight: 5,018 lbs
- Length: 188.5 in
There's no denying the awesomeness of the i4 M50's acceleration, and if you stick with the 19-inch wheels, it only gives up 10 miles of range to the significantly slower (but still very quick) i4 xDrive40. That's a neat trick by BMW's engineers — adding huge power with hardly any tradeoff in terms of range despite using the same battery.
8. 2024 BMW i4 M50 (AWD w/20-inch wheels)
- Base Price: $72,200
- Range: 227 mi
- Battery Capacity: 83.9 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 200 kW
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2 electric motors
- Horsepower: 536
- Torque: 586 lb-ft
- 0-60: 3.7 sec
- Weight: 5,018 lbs
- Length: 188.5 in
What a difference an inch of wheel diameter can make, eh? We just don't see the value in this package — you're paying more to lose 42 miles of range, and you're not gaining any acceleration in the deal.
