What's New for 2025?
Surprise! The A5 model name no longer attaches to a coupe or convertible, like it did as recently as 2024. Going forward, Audi will use it for this new hatchback sedan, which effectively replaces both the A4 sedan and the A5 Sportback. Got all that? Anyway, just think of the new A5 is Audi's answer to both the BMW 3 Series (which the A4 previously competed against) and the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe (the A5 Sportback's old nemesis).

Is the 2025 Audi A5 a Good Car?
"Replacing both the venerable A4 sedan and the A5 Sportback, the A5 sensibly borrows the latter's hatchback design, because who wouldn't want a lot more cargo-hauling versatility? Mechanically, the A5 is quite similar to both of its predecessors, pairing an impeccably refined 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a seven-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission (there's also an S5 variant with a sweet turbocharged V6). Inside is where the A5 really raises the bar, boasting a screen-tastic dashboard that may seem like tech overload, especially if you get the Prestige trim with its separate 10.9-inch passenger display. Overall, the A5 is a dignified and well-rounded competitor, but take a close look at the fuel economy, which isn't close to class-leading."—Ranked #3 out of 9 Compact Luxury Sedans
Which 2025 Audi A5 Should I Buy?
MotorDonkey's proprietary vehicle data identifies every significant version of each model so that you can compare and decide. Ordered by price from low to high, here are the versions of the 2025 Audi A5 that you need to be aware of, along with our expert analysis and recommendations.
1. 2025 Audi A5 2.0T Quattro (All-Wheel Drive)
- Base Price: $49,700
- MPG Combined: 26
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.0-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 7-speed automated manual
- Horsepower: 268
- Torque: 295 lb-ft
- 0-60: 5.6 sec
- Weight: 4,090 lbs
- Length: 190.1 in
The A5 2.0T is a safe play in the compact luxury-sedan segment. Acceleration is smooth and swift, if not sporty, while the hatchback trunk opens up a useful amount of cargo space when you flip the rear seatbacks down. This is relatively heavy car, though, and that shows up in the fuel-economy department, where the numbers disappoint for a new four-cylinder car.
2. 2025 Audi S5 (3.0T AWD)
- Base Price: $62,700
- MPG Combined: 22
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 3.0-liter V6
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 7-speed automated manual
- Horsepower: 362
- Torque: 406 lb-ft
- 0-60: 4.3 sec
- Weight: 4,288 lbs
- Length: 190.3 in
The S5 is all about the delectable 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 under the hood. Don't test-drive one unless you're prepared to buy it, because it will make the regular A5 seem downright boring. Don't expect great fuel economy, either — the BMW M440i Gran Coupe blows it away in this regard.
