Is the 2025 Volvo EX90 a Good SUV?
"The EX90 gets points for looking great, of course. We hope whoever designed the Mercedes EQS SUV is paying attention, because this Volvo proves that big electric SUVs don't have to look like melted bars of soap after all. By the numbers, the EX90 is more of a mixed bag by this segment's lofty standards. It does hit an EPA-estimated 310 miles of range whether you get the standard (0-60 in 5.7 seconds) or Performance variant (4.7 seconds), and its 250-kW max charge rate is strong, but there's no single metric here that really stands out when the bar set by Rivian and others is so high."—Ranked #7 out of 11 Large 3-Row Electric SUVs
Which 2025 Volvo EX90 Should I Buy?
MotorDonkey's proprietary vehicle data identifies every significant version of each model so that you can compare and decide. Ordered by price from low to high, here are the versions of the 2025 Volvo EX90 that you need to be aware of, along with our expert analysis and recommendations.
1. 2025 Volvo EX90 Twin Motor AWD
- Base Price: $79,995
- Range: 310 mi
- Battery Capacity: 111.0 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 250 kW
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2 electric motors
- Horsepower: 402
- Torque: 568 lb-ft
- 0-60: 5.7 sec
- Weight: 6,127 lbs
- Length: 198.3 in
- Towing Capacity: 4,850 lbs
At a glance, the base EX90 looks like all the electric SUV most people will need, but three-plus tons of curb weight have a way of blunting all that horsepower. Look no further than the less-than-awesome 5.7-second sprint to 60 mph for evidence. That's not great for an $80k SUV, but the EX90 Performance improves the acceleration significantly at the $85k price point without giving up any range.
2. 2025 Volvo EX90 Twin Motor Performance AWD
- Base Price: $84,995
- Range: 310 mi
- Battery Capacity: 111.0 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 250 kW
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2 electric motors
- Horsepower: 510
- Torque: 671 lb-ft
- 0-60: 4.7 sec
- Weight: 6,144 lbs
- Length: 198.3 in
- Towing Capacity: 4,850 lbs
The EX90 Performance model's 4.7-second dash to 60 mph seems more like it for an $85k-plus electric SUV, and there's no range penalty whatsoever versus the non-Performance EX90. That's true whether you get the efficiency-leading 21-inch wheels (310 miles of range) or either the 20- or 22-inch wheels (300 miles of range). Given that it's only about $5k to upgrade to the Performance, we see zero reason to exercise restraint in this case, and there's a presumption in favor of the 21s to get those extra 10 miles.
