What's New for 2025?
The EX40 is last year's XC40 Recharge by another name. Volvo has changed the nomenclature to position the compact EX40 just above the subcompact EX30, but behind the new badge, it's the same car. Well, one other thing has changed: the dual-motor version now shares the base model's 82-kWh battery pack, up 4 kWh from last year. That's not reflected in the EPA range estimates, though, as both versions get a 3-mile bump this year.

Is the 2025 Volvo EX40 a Good SUV?
"EX40 is Volvo's new-for-2025 name for the XC40 Recharge, but the name is the only notable thing that has changed. As such, you can continue to expect sports-car acceleration with all-wheel drive, or else nearly 300 miles of range with rear-wheel drive. Unfortunately, there isn't a version of this Volvo that offers both of those strengths; you have to choose one or the other. We certainly appreciate the EX40's timeless Scandinavian style, but it needs to check the boxes for both range and performance in order to separate itself from the pack, especially given that its small central touchscreen is behind the times."—Ranked #7 out of 13 Compact Luxury Electric SUVs

The base EX40 delivers adequate acceleration along with a healthy amount of range. It's just that the price is rather high compared to other such EV SUVs.
2. 2025 Volvo EX40 Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $54,250
- Range: 260 mi
- Battery Capacity: 82.0 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 205 kW

In case you're squinting at the frunk specs: Why yes, the dual-motor EX40 does indeed have 0.4 more cubic feet of space in its front trunk. Otherwise, it's the classic dual-motor EV tradeoff. You get way more acceleration here, but significantly less range. To Volvo's credit, the price hike for AWD is less than $2k, so that's a lot of extra power for a pittance.
