Although the Jetta GLI manual technically doesn't get quite as much sauce from its 2.0T engine as does the GTI, it's neck-and-neck with its hatchback cousin when it comes to acceleration figures. The hatch is an easy pick for us, not least because it's a whopping 18 inches or so shorter while retaining a highly functional interior. But as sport compact sedans go, the Jetta GLI is at the top of the class.
