What's New for 2025?
VW says that the ID.4 "will receive additional content starting midyear," but we don't have details yet. For now, the 2025 ID.4 should be considered a carryover model, albeit without last year's base model with the 62-kWh battery (no big loss), which is why the base price for 2025 is currently a lot higher.

Is the 2025 Volkswagen ID.4 a Good SUV?
"The ID.4 is competitive on paper, but do you find yourself wanting it based on how it looks? That's the primary problem with this VW. If it had more of the GTI's angular sportiness, for example, then perhaps some Model Y shoppers would be taking a closer look, because the Y's styling certainly isn't a strength. As things stand, however, the ID.4 is about as exciting to look at as a bar of soap, so Tesla fans have no good reason to reconsider their allegiance. That's a shame, because our ID.4 pick — the rear-wheel-drive Pro model — gives you 291 miles of range and sprints to 60 mph in five and a half seconds for around $45k, which is all good stuff."—Ranked #7 out of 12 Compact Electric SUVs
Which 2025 Volkswagen ID.4 Should I Buy?

1. 2025 Volkswagen ID.4 Pro RWD (82-kWh Battery)
- Base Price: $45,095
- Range: 291 mi
- Battery Capacity: 82.0 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 175 kW
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 1 electric motor
- Horsepower: 282
- Torque: 402 lb-ft
- 0-60: 5.6 sec
- Weight: 4,601 lbs
- Length: 180.5 in
- Towing Capacity: 2,200 lbs
If you want an ID.4, the Pro RWD is where it's at, honestly. You get a sub-6-second sprint to 60 mph along with nearly 300 miles of range. It's VW's best electrified foot forward right now.
2. 2025 Volkswagen ID.4 Pro AWD (82-kWh Battery)
- Base Price: $48,995
- Range: 263 mi
- Battery Capacity: 82.0 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 175 kW
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2 electric motors
- Horsepower: 335
- Torque: N/A
- 0-60: 4.8 sec
- Weight: 4,824 lbs
- Length: 180.5 in
- Towing Capacity: 2,200 lbs
The ID.4 Pro AWD used to be a stronger candidate, but with the huge improvement in the Pro RWD's power unit for 2024, the Pro AWD has almost been rendered superfluous. You lose nearly 30 miles of range in the "upgrade" from Pro RWD to Pro AWD, and you don't gain all that much acceleration. Plus, you're paying thousands more.
2025 Volkswagen ID.4: Our Pick

The Pro RWD is an easy pick, as it provides strong acceleration and easily the best range in the ID.4 lineup while undercutting the Pro AWD on price by a few grand.
