FAST FACTS
2025 Toyota Land Cruiser
Rank
- #10 in Midsize Luxury SUVs
Pros
- Serious off-road capability
- Solid city fuel economy for a tough SUV
- Looks cool
Cons
- Sluggish acceleration
- Overall fuel economy isn't that great
- No third-row seat anymore due to hybrid hardware
- Arguably less appealing than its Lexus GX and Toyota 4Runner platform-mates
What's New for 2025?
The Land Cruiser carries over nearly unchanged following the current model's introduction last year. We say "nearly" because, technically, Toyota has added integrated liftgate lights this year to improve cargo-area visibility when the liftgate is open.

Is the 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser a Good SUV?
"Toyota's not a luxury brand, but the Land Cruiser has been a luxury SUV for decades, and that's still the case despite its demotion to the $50k price bracket with the latest redesign. Realistically, you're going to be paying well into the $60s at least for a new LC, and the value frankly just isn't there when you look at its platform-mates under the Toyota-Lexus umbrella. The cheaper 4Runner can be equipped with the same hybrid powertrain that comes standard on the LC, and unlike the two-row-only Cruiser, it offers a third-row seat (albeit only with the non-hybrid engine). Meanwhile, the three-row Lexus GX is the only one that has the superior 3.4-liter turbo V6, which is why it leaves the hybrid-only Land Cruiser in the dust. The upshot is that the iconic LC is stuck in the middle with no strong argument in its favor. The styling is cool, we'll give it that, but the underwhelming acceleration and (despite all that hybrid complexity) fuel economy aren't, while the lack of a third row only heightens the sense that this Cruiser is a shadow of its former self."—Ranked #10 out of 11 Midsize Luxury SUVs
"If the 4Runner Hybrid belongs here then so does the Land Cruiser, which is a very similar vehicle underneath that retro-cool sheet metal. That includes the hybrid powertrain, which is as underwhelming here as it is in the 4Runner. The fuel economy is only impressive compared to non-hybrid rivals, and the robust power and torque figures simply don't translate to authoritative acceleration. Like the Toyota, the Land Cruiser doesn't have room in the way back for a third-row seat, breaking with longstanding Cruiser tradition."—Ranked #4 out of 5 Midsize Luxury Hybrid SUVs
Which 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser Should I Buy?
MotorDonkey's proprietary vehicle data identifies every significant version of each model so that you can compare and decide. There's only one standalone version of the 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser, and here it is, along with our expert analysis and recommendations.
2025 Toyota Land Cruiser Hybrid 4WD (2.4T 8AT)
- Base Price: $56,700
- MPG Combined: 23
- Drive Type: Four-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.4-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 326
- Torque: 465 lb-ft
- 0-60: 7.7 sec
- Weight: 5,360 lbs
- Length: 193.8 in
- Towing Capacity: 6,000 lbs
The reborn, two-row-only Land Cruiser has some significant differences relative to its cross-town sibling, the two-row Lexus GX 550 Overtrail, including a 1.4-second deficit in the sprint to 60 mph and about 3,000 fewer pounds of towing capacity. Although the LC's fuel economy is superior due to its "Hybrid Max" powertrain, its fuel tank is more than 3 gallons smaller, so it doesn't have the kind of range advantage that could have helped set it apart. Also, the new 2025 Toyota 4Runner — another of the Land Cruiser's platform-mates — offers a third-row seat, as does the GX, whereas the traditionally three-row Land Cruiser does not. We like the Land Cruiser's styling, including the 1958 trim's cool throwback round headlights, but it's hard to make a case for this reinvented legend when the GX 550 and 4Runner have entered the conversation.
