Which 2024 Tesla Model X Should I Buy?
MotorDonkey's proprietary vehicle data identifies every significant version of each model so that you can compare and decide. Ordered by price from low to high, here are the versions of the 2024 Tesla Model X that you need to be aware of, along with our expert analysis and recommendations.
1. 2024 Tesla Model X AWD 2-Row
- Base Price: $79,990
- Range: 335 mi
- Battery Capacity: 100.0 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 250 kW

- Torque: N/A
- 0-60: 3.8 sec

We struggle to see the point of the two-row Model X. Why would you buy the Tesla of minivans without the third seating row? For us, this configuration is a non-starter.
2. 2024 Tesla Model X AWD 3-Row
- Base Price: $83,490
- Range: 335 mi
- Battery Capacity: 100.0 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 250 kW
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2 electric motors
- Horsepower: 670
- Torque: N/A
- 0-60: 3.8 sec
- Weight: 5,148 lbs
- Length: 199.1 in
- Towing Capacity: 5,000 lbs
Making the Model X a three-row vehicle costs a minimum of $3,500, which gets you the seven-seat layout that includes a second-row bench seat. That's the one we've captured here in the data. If you want a six-seat layout with captain's chairs in the second row — which incidentally is the only way the Model X Plaid is sold — that'll be a $6,500 upcharge. Whichever one you choose, it'll make a lot more sense than the base two-row Model X. The whole point of the second-row "falcon wing doors" is to ease third-row ingress and egress; this is a three-row vehicle at heart. And when you look around for other three-row vehicles that get to 60 mph in less than 4 seconds, you'll find it's a very short list.
3. 2024 Tesla Model X Plaid
- Base Price: $94,990
- Range: 326 mi
- Battery Capacity: 100.0 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 250 kW
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 3 electric motors
- Horsepower: 1,020
- Torque: 1,151 lb-ft
- 0-60: 2.5 sec
- Weight: 5,248 lbs
- Length: 199.1 in
- Towing Capacity: 5,000 lbs
Offered only in the six-seater configuration, the three-row Model X Plaid is the closest thing we have today to the Mercedes-Benz R63 AMG, which was a shockingly fast minivan-adjacent utility vehicle with similar seating. That's a compliment, by the way. Just like that Benz, the rather ungainly Model X Plaid doesn't look the part of a high-performance car at all, yet its 2.5-second blast to 60 mph will certainly get the attention of all passengers. It's also remarkable that the Plaid gives up just nine miles of range to the standard Model X despite pumping out dramatically more power from its tri-motor setup.
