FAST FACTS
2025 Tesla Model S Plaid
Pros
- Dramatically faster than the standard Model S, which is already dramatically fast
- Range remains generous
- Spacious seating
- Hatchback trunk adds major versatility
Cons
- Minimalist interior could seem inadequately luxurious
- Lucid Air Sapphire eats the Plaid's lunch in the range category, though it also costs 2.5 times as much
What's New for 2025?
One notable development is the EPA's slight downgrading of the 2025 Plaid's range estimates: the Plaid with the standard 19-inch wheels drops 11 miles to 348 total, while the Plaid with 21s drops 12 miles to 308 total. Also, a midyear refresh brings tweaked exterior styling.

If you can block out the noise for a minute and reflect on what the Model S Plaid brings to the table, we think you'll agree it's a truly incredible car. Perhaps the best way to illustrate the Plaid's greatness is to compare it to the Porsche Taycan. How much would you have to pay to get a Taycan that does zero to 60 mph in 2 seconds flat?
Technically, no such Taycan exists, but the top-of-the-line Turbo GT Sedan with the Weissach package can do the deed in 2.1 seconds. Price tag? That'll be $231,100 to start, and the Turbo GT Weissach gets a modest 269-mile range estimate from the EPA, far behind the Plaid's 348-mile best.
If Porsche can't even beat this thing with its very best Taycan for more than twice the price, you know it's something special. Oh, and by the way, the Plaid also has SUV-grade cargo capacity, thanks to its hatchback trunk and fold-flat rear seatbacks, as well as a spacious backseat that puts the Taycan's coupe-like rear quarters to shame.
Which 2025 Tesla Model S Plaid Should I Buy?
MotorDonkey's proprietary vehicle data identifies every significant version of each model so that you can compare and decide. There's only one standalone version of the 2025 Tesla Model S Plaid, and here it is, along with our expert analysis and recommendations.
2025 Tesla Model S Plaid
- Base Price: $99,990
- Range: 368 mi
- Battery Capacity: 100.0 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 250 kW
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 3 electric motors
- Horsepower: 1,020
- Torque: 1,050 lb-ft
- 0-60: 2.0 sec
- Weight: 4,776 lbs
- Length: 197.7 in
Tesla would probably like us to point out that the officially provided 0-60 time is 1.99 seconds, which of course we round up to an even 2.0 seconds. Anyway, the 1,020-hp Plaid is a car that needs no introduction. One surprising detail is its still-impressive EPA range estimate, though the regular Model S beats that handily while still being blisteringly quick, which is why it's our pick.
