Is the 2025 Tesla Model S a Good Car?
"You might be tempted to dismiss the Model S because it's been around in more or less its current form since 2013(!), but that would be a mistake. Tesla has kept its top-shelf electric car fresh over the years, and its current combination of mega range and blistering acceleration — the entry-level Model S gives you 402 miles of range and goes 0-60 in 3.1 seconds — remains the envy of most rivals. There's also the matter of this Tesla's hatchback trunk, which opens up to reveal an SUV-grade cargo hold with the rear seatbacks folded. The more you look into the Model S, the more obvious it becomes that it's just a great car."—Ranked #2 out of 7 Midsize Luxury Electric Cars

1. 2025 Tesla Model S All-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $84,990
- Range: 410 mi
- Battery Capacity: 100.0 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 250 kW
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2 electric motors
- Horsepower: 670
- Torque: 723 lb-ft
- 0-60: 3.1 sec
- Weight: 4,560 lbs
- Length: 197.7 in
The "entry-level" Model S is actually a beast, if you hadn't already figured that out. It's mega fast, delivers mega range and even gives you the cargo capacity of a compact SUV, thanks to its handy hatchback trunk and fold-flat rear seatbacks. The S has been on the market in more or less the same form for what seems like forever, yet it continues to be one of the best all-around cars in the world.
2. 2025 Tesla Model S Plaid
- Base Price: $99,990
- Range: 368 mi
- Battery Capacity: 100.0 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 250 kW
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 3 electric motors
- Horsepower: 1,020
- Torque: 1,050 lb-ft
- 0-60: 2.0 sec
- Weight: 4,776 lbs
- Length: 197.7 in
Tesla would probably like us to point out that the officially provided 0-60 time is 1.99 seconds, which of course we round up to an even 2.0 seconds. Anyway, the 1,020-hp Plaid is a car that needs no introduction. One surprising detail is its still-impressive EPA range estimate, though the regular Model S beats that handily while still being blisteringly quick, which is why it's our pick.
