The entry-level 2024 Ram 1500 Quad Cab 3.6 RWD is a bit misleading with its range-topping 2,300-pound payload capacity, because the runner-up in the 1500 lineup barely cracks 2,000 pounds. Still, 2,300 is a big number that you can use for bragging rights if you end up getting this version.
The most affordable crew cab in the 2024 Ram 1500 lineup isn't exactly cheap, but you certainly get your money's worth in terms of rear legroom, gaining about 10 inches(!) compared to the standard Quad Cab.
Meet the towing champ in the 2024 Ram 1500 lineup: The Quad Cab 4x2 with the optional 5.7-liter V8. You'll have to add the 3.92 axle ratio, too, if you want to unlock all that towing capacity. But hey, all hail the king.
Towing capacity goes down to 6,500 pounds if you pair the base V6 with four-wheel drive and don't touch the axle ratio. That's less than some midsize SUVs can manage. Upgrading from the standard 3.21 axle ratio to the 3.55 option boosts you up to 7,500 pounds of max towing without affecting the 1,830-pound payload rating.
Max out the capabilities of your 2024 Ram 1500 4x2 Crew Cab with the Hemi V8 — including the optional 3.92 axle ratio — and you're looking at some serious towing capacity. We should note that if you select the long bed (instead of the short bed that comes standard with the crew cab), the max towing capacity actually goes up by 20 pounds to a grand total of 11,540, although payload dips by 30 pounds to 1,810.
Adding 4WD to the V6 crew cab will run you nearly $4k, so it's worth considering whether you really need a 4x4 truck.
Add the Hemi V8 and four-wheel drive to the 2024 Ram 1500 Quad Cab and you've got a pretty handy all-around truck for about $46k to start. You'll have to pay more for the optional towing package with the 3.92 axle ratio, but it might be worth it to unlock that healthy 11,340-pound max towing figure.
The Ram 1500 Crew Cab 4x4 with the Hemi tops out at 11,270 pounds of max towing capacity with the short bed, but if you opt for the long bed, that goes up slightly to 11,310 pounds. The payload tradeoff goes the other way, dropping from 1,860 pounds to 1,800. Note that you'll need optional equipment that includes the 3.92 axle ratio to achieve these numbers. It's also worth noting that even the base Tradesman trim (the version captured here) starts at nearly $50k in this configuration. That's a lot of coin for a base truck, even if it's a 4x4 with the V8.
There's not much to say about the TRX that hasn't already been said. It's got a supercharged Hellcat V8 under the hood and does 0-60 in less than four seconds. It's a supremely capable off-roader. It weighs almost 7,000 pounds and gets 12 mpg combined. You get the idea.
