Is the 2025 Porsche Macan a Good SUV?
"It's old, it doesn't have much cargo or rear passenger space, and its fuel economy is disappointing. We love it anyway, but that's because we're fans of twisty roads. It's just that simple with the Macan: if you want an SUV that drives like a hot hatch on stilts, you'll make peace with its unseemly thirst (even with the base four-cylinder engine) and space-challenged interior. But if you're looking for a well-rounded package, this isn't it, although we'll grant that the Macan has more cargo space than you might expect, and its touchscreen manages to be both high-tech and subtle."—Ranked #3 out of 16 Compact Luxury SUVs
Which 2025 Porsche Macan Should I Buy?
MotorDonkey's proprietary vehicle data identifies every significant version of each model so that you can compare and decide. Ordered by price from low to high, here are the versions of the 2025 Porsche Macan that you need to be aware of, along with our expert analysis and recommendations.

1. 2025 Porsche Macan Base (2.0T AWD)
- Base Price: $62,900
- MPG Combined: 21
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.0-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 7-speed automated manual
- Horsepower: 261
- Torque: 295 lb-ft
- 0-60: 6.0 sec
- Weight: 4,151 lbs
- Length: 186.1 in
- Towing Capacity: 4,409 lbs
The base Macan is on the sporty end of the small-SUV spectrum, not surprisingly, but 0-60 in 6.0 seconds doesn't really move the needle these days. We'd be looking for more sizzle under the hood to do justice to that Porsche badge.
2. 2025 Porsche Macan T (2.0T AWD)
- Base Price: $68,500
- MPG Combined: 21
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.0-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 7-speed automated manual
- Horsepower: 261
- Torque: 295 lb-ft
- 0-60: 5.8 sec
- Weight: 4,187 lbs
- Length: 186.1 in
- Towing Capacity: 4,409 lbs
The Macan T is more of an options package than a separate version of the Macan, but since you might have heard about it as if it were a version, we're including it in the data. In essence, the T is a base Macan with adaptive suspension dampers (PASM) and the Sport Chrono package, which crucially adds launch control. Why crucially? Because that's why the T gets to 60 mph two-tenths of a second quicker than the base Macan despite weighing slightly more. If you don't use launch control, in other words — and you almost never will — the T will be no quicker than the base version.
3. 2025 Porsche Macan S (2.9T AWD)
- Base Price: $74,500
- MPG Combined: 19
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.9-liter V6
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 7-speed automated manual
- Horsepower: 375
- Torque: 383 lb-ft
- 0-60: 4.6 sec
- Weight: 4,350 lbs
- Length: 186.1 in
- Towing Capacity: 4,409 lbs
There are those who will tell you that the Macan is great with either the base four-cylinder engine or the twin-turbocharged V6 found in the S, but we'd respectfully tell you not to listen to them. While the entry-level Macan makes the most of its turbo four — and the Volkswagen group does make one of the very best 2.0T fours — there is no comparison to the acceleration you get with the V6. We actually consider the Macan S a bargain relative to its four-cylinder brethren, as it's easy to option a base Macan up to, or past, the starting price of the S. That money would be much better spent on the S itself.
4. 2025 Porsche Macan GTS (2.9T AWD)
- Base Price: $89,000
- MPG Combined: 19
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.9-liter V6
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 7-speed automated manual
- Horsepower: 434
- Torque: 405 lb-ft
- 0-60: 4.3 sec
- Weight: 4,400 lbs
- Length: 186.1 in
- Towing Capacity: 4,409 lbs
Not that you would take your compact SUV to 169 mph, but perhaps it's nice to know you could? The GTS is the ultimate in Macan performance, in case you hadn't figured that out already. We'd be just fine with the regular Macan S, as it's got the same 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 under the hood. But the GTS pushes everything to the limits, so if you won't be satisfied with less, maybe it's worth the stretch.
