1. 2024 Polestar 2 Single Motor Rear-Wheel Drive (19-inch wheels)
- Base Price: $49,900
- Range: 320 mi
- Battery Capacity: 82.0 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 205 kW
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 1 electric motor
- Horsepower: 299
- Torque: 361 lb-ft
- 0-60: 5.9 sec
- Weight: 4,420 lbs
- Length: 181.3 in
As is typically the case with EVs, the single-motor Polestar 2 with the smaller wheels is the range champ in the lineup. It's also the price champ, so if you're looking to maximize your range, you get the best deal, too. The dual-motor versions are much faster, of course, but 0-60 in 5.9 seconds will be plenty quick for most.
2. 2024 Polestar 2 Single Motor Rear-Wheel Drive (20-inch wheels)
- Base Price: $51,200
- Range: 307 mi
- Battery Capacity: 82.0 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 205 kW
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 1 electric motor
- Horsepower: 299
- Torque: 361 lb-ft
- 0-60: 5.9 sec
- Weight: 4,540 lbs
- Length: 181.3 in
We generally advise against embiggening the wheels on your EV, as doing so tends to have a significantly negative effect on range. In this case, however, you can upgrade your wheels to 20s while only losing 13 miles of range, so if you're sold on the look of those wheels, it's an easy pill to swallow.
3. 2024 Polestar 2 Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive (19-inch wheels)
- Base Price: $55,300
- Range: 276 mi
- Battery Capacity: 78.0 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 205 kW
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2 electric motors
- Horsepower: 421
- Torque: 546 lb-ft
- 0-60: 4.3 sec
- Weight: 4,640 lbs
- Length: 181.3 in
The dual-motor Polestar 2 is a tempting proposition. Although it trails the lineup's range leader (the single-motor model with 19-inch wheels) by 44 miles, its rated range of 276 miles is far from disappointing. It's also a dramatically faster car that adds the year-round versatility of all-wheel drive. Tough choice — or maybe an easy one if you like big power.
4. 2024 Polestar 2 Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive (20-inch wheels)
- Base Price: $56,600
- Range: 266 mi
- Battery Capacity: 78.0 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 205 kW
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2 electric motors
- Horsepower: 421
- Torque: 546 lb-ft
- 0-60: 4.3 sec
- Weight: 4,740 lbs
- Length: 181.3 in
The dual-motor Polestar 2 with 20-inch wheels manages to limit the range penalty to just 10 miles, but do you really want to trade range for style — and get a firmer ride, too? Then again, the 2 with the 20s really does look great.
5. 2024 Polestar 2 Dual Motor AWD Performance Pack
- Base Price: $63,000
- Range: 247 mi
- Battery Capacity: 78.0 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 205 kW
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2 electric motors
- Horsepower: 455
- Torque: 546 lb-ft
- 0-60: 4.0 sec
- Weight: 4,740 lbs
- Length: 181.3 in
Here comes the law of diminishing returns. Yes, the Performance Pack adds 34 horsepower compared to the regular Polestar 2 AWD, but it doesn't gain any torque, and we would argue that the regular version's 421-hp output is already more than adequate. Now consider the fact that the Performance Pack exacts a penalty of 19 miles in the range column. Is all of that worth spending another seven or eight grand? It's hard to make the case, in our opinion.
