Is the 2025 Nissan Altima a Good Car?
"Toiling in relative obscurity while Toyota and Honda buy all the TV ads, the Altima makes a solid case for itself if you look at the numbers. Its fuel economy aligns with that of the non-hybrid Accord, while its features and dimensions are generally competitive by segment standards. We wouldn't shy away from this Nissan at the right price, but it's definitely a value play more than a car you'd be genuinely excited to own."—Ranked #6 out of 7 Midsize Sedans
Which 2025 Nissan Altima Should I Buy?
MotorDonkey's proprietary vehicle data identifies every significant version of each model so that you can compare and decide. Ordered by price from low to high, here are the versions of the 2025 Nissan Altima that you need to be aware of, along with our expert analysis and recommendations.
1. 2025 Nissan Altima 2.5 Front-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $27,000
- MPG Combined: 32
- Drive Type: Front-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.5-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: CVT
- Horsepower: 188
- Torque: 180 lb-ft
- Weight: 3,253 lbs
- Length: 192.9 in
Rated at nearly 40 mpg highway, the base 2.5-liter Altima certainly does its job from an efficiency standpoint. It's unlikely to excite you otherwise, but there's a lot of value in an entry-level Altima. Notably, stepping up to the SL or SR trim means bigger wheels, which hurt fuel economy to the tune of 1 mpg overall (31 mpg combined vs 32) and 2 mpg highway (37 mpg highway vs 39).
2. 2025 Nissan Altima 2.5 All-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $28,930
- MPG Combined: 28
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.5-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: CVT
- Horsepower: 182
- Torque: 178 lb-ft
- 0-60: 7.6 sec
- Weight: 3,401 lbs
- Length: 192.9 in
The all-wheel-drive Altima makes slighly less power and torque than the base front-drive model, and it's got about 150 extra pounds to haul around. That's not a great recipe for acceleration, but the fuel economy ends up suffering even more. We wouldn't expect a drop of 4 mpg overall based on the facts at hand, but that's what the EPA projects — 28 mpg combined with AWD vs 32 with front-wheel drive. That's a huge deficit. We'd strongly recommend skipping AWD unless you can't do without that peace of mind.
