Is the 2025 Mini Countryman a Good SUV?
"Freshly embiggened for 2025, the latest Countryman is still firmly subcompact when you look at its dimensions, coming up a couple inches short of its BMW X1 platform-mate. In fact, despite their dramatically different styling, the Countryman and X1 are essentially twins in most categories, from engine output to towing capacity. You can take your pick, then, and it's nice to have choices. We still think the previous Countryman was easier on the eyes, but the new one has an undeniable charm that earns it our vote over the BMW."—Ranked #1 out of 12 Subcompact Luxury SUVs

1. 2025 Mini Countryman S All4 (2.0T All-Wheel Drive)
- Base Price: $38,900
- MPG Combined: 27
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.0-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 7-speed automated manual
- Horsepower: 241
- Torque: 295 lb-ft
- 0-60: 6.2 sec
- Weight: 3,777 lbs
- Length: 175.0 in
- Towing Capacity: 3,500 lbs
The new-generation Countryman's gas tank is almost two gallons smaller than it used to be, so that's something to keep in mind if maximum driving range is on your mind. You get signficantly more power in this Countryman S compared to its predecessor, though, along with more than five extra inches of length, 1.5 more inches of ground clearance and 2,000 more pounds of towing capacity, all without sacrificing fuel economy.
2. 2025 Mini JCW Countryman All4 (2.0T AWD)
- Base Price: $46,900
- MPG Combined: 26
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.0-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 7-speed automated manual
- Horsepower: 312
- Torque: 295 lb-ft
- 0-60: 5.2 sec
- Weight: 3,836 lbs
- Length: 175.1 in
- Towing Capacity: 3,500 lbs
The main question with the JCW (John Cooper Works) Countryman is, do you want to pay that much more for marginally better acceleration? The previous JCW Countryman hit 60 mph in 4.9 seconds; this one does it in 5.2 seconds, per Mini. Since the regular Countryman S does the deed in a swift 6.2 seconds, the JCW isn't an obvious performance winner like it used to be.
