Is the 2025 Mercedes-Benz AMG C43 a Good Car?
"Does the C43 make the numbers? Absolutely. It's impossible to ignore an AMG-tuned C-Class that extracts more than 400 horsepower from a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. But there's the rub: the C43 has to make the most of a diminutive four-banger in the engine room, whereas multiple rivals in this segment provide the superior sound and feel of six-cylinder or even V8 power. We love a great turbo four if it's in something like a VW GTI, but the C43 is up against all-star engines like BMW's B58 inline-6. How can it hope to compete? It's also worth noting that the C43 doesn't even get great fuel economy, so there's really no upside."—Ranked #4 out of 6 Compact Performance Sedans
Which 2025 Mercedes-Benz AMG C43 Should I Buy?
MotorDonkey's proprietary vehicle data identifies every significant version of each model so that you can compare and decide. There's only one standalone version of the 2025 Mercedes-Benz AMG C43, and here it is, along with our expert analysis and recommendations.
2025 Mercedes-Benz AMG C43 4MATIC (2.0T All-Wheel Drive)
- Base Price: $62,500
- MPG Combined: 22
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.0-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 9-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 416
- Torque: 369 lb-ft
- 0-60: 4.6 sec
- Weight: 4,092 lbs
- Length: 188.6 in
Although the C43's turbocharged and electrically assisted 2.0-liter engine makes eye-popping power for a four-cylinder — more than 200 horsepower per liter is almost unheard of — it's the "four-cylinder" part that will be the problem for many enthusiasts. AMG, after all, is an enthusiast sub-brand, and its loyal customers will likely be disappointed in this complex new engine's lack of character. The previous C43's twin-turbo V6 was far more engaging. By the way, what's up with getting only 22 mpg combined out of this downsized four-banger powertrain? The C43 V6 was EPA-rated at 21 mpg combined. You can look it up.
