The current-generation AMG GT is essentially the coupe version of the SL-Class convertible. Unlike the SL, which comes standard with a tiny second row of seats, the AMG GT coupe makes that backseat optional. But otherwise, it's the same idea — a smallish two-door with huge power. In the AMG GT's case, you also get 911-aping styling. As with the SL, we love the "55" specification and find the AMG GT 63 to be overkill, using as it does the same basic twin-turbo V8.
First reaction to the AMG GT 63 Coupe has to be, "Wow, they're charging $40k-plus to turn up the boost on the same 4.0-liter V8 engine that's in the AMG GT 55?" Of course, there are other unique aspects of the 63, but you have to ask yourself if the same engine — just more of it — is worth that much of a premium. If it were a V12, hey, we'd be the first to argue it's a bargain.
