Is the 2025 Lexus RZ a Good SUV?
"The RZ is Exhibit A of how electric vehicles are shaking up traditional luxury categories. Consider that Lexus has now cut the price of the RZ to compete with the base Hyundai Ioniq 5, which isn't even in this segment because Hyundai isn't a luxury brand. It underscores the fact that EV shoppers care about range more than just about anything, and when a luxury electric SUV fails to deliver more than 266 miles of it — as in the RZ's case — it simply doesn't matter what badge is on the grille. Bring more range or else this market isn't having it. Speaking of that 266-mile range rating, you can only get it on the base RZ, which is the only version of this model that we'd even consider. The others get significantly less range and cost more. Lexus sells many excellent vehicles; this isn't one of them."—Ranked #11 out of 13 Compact Luxury Electric SUVs

1. 2025 Lexus RZ 300e (FWD w/18-inch wheels)
- Base Price: $42,800
- Range: 266 mi
- Battery Capacity: 72.8 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 150 kW
- Drive Type: Front-wheel drive
- Engine: 1 electric motor
- Horsepower: 201
- Torque: 196 lb-ft
- 0-60: 7.4 sec
- Weight: 4,277 lbs
- Length: 189.2 in
- Towing Capacity: N/A
The front-wheel-drive, single-motor RZ 300e has a solid amount of driving range, but the problem is that when you look at rival luxury EVs, pretty much all of them offer either more power or more range — or both.
2. 2025 Lexus RZ 450e (AWD w/18-inch wheels)
- Base Price: $47,500
- Range: 220 mi
- Battery Capacity: 72.8 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 150 kW
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2 electric motors
- Horsepower: 308
- Torque: N/A
- 0-60: 5.0 sec
- Weight: 4,564 lbs
- Length: 189.2 in
- Towing Capacity: N/A
The dual-motor RZ 450e delivers strong acceleration, but its range just isn't good enough by today's standards, especially for the price. At least the standard 18-inch wheels make the most of the 450e's range potential; it gets even worse with the 20s.
3. 2025 Lexus RZ 300e (FWD w/20-inch wheels)
- Base Price: $48,240
- Range: 224 mi
- Battery Capacity: 72.8 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 150 kW
- Drive Type: Front-wheel drive
- Engine: 1 electric motor
- Horsepower: 201
- Torque: 196 lb-ft
- 0-60: 7.4 sec
- Weight: 4,321 lbs
- Length: 189.2 in
- Towing Capacity: N/A
It's amazing how much a set of bigger wheels can hurt EV efficiency. In the case of the single-motor RZ 300e, going from 18s to 20s costs you 42 miles of range — that's a penalty of 16 percent — and you have to pay Lexus more money for this outcome.
4. 2025 Lexus RZ 450e (AWD w/20-inch wheels)
- Base Price: $52,940
- Range: 196 mi
- Battery Capacity: 72.8 kWh
- Peak Charge Rate: 150 kW
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2 electric motors
- Horsepower: 308
- Torque: N/A
- 0-60: 5.0 sec
- Weight: 4,586 lbs
- Length: 189.2 in
- Towing Capacity: N/A
It's common knowledge that the RZ isn't exactly Lexus/Toyota's best foot forward — the company has dragged its feet on EV development, and it shows here. But still, a range estimate of less than 200 miles for a mid-$50s EV is stunning, especially given that this isn't a wild high-performance variant that would suck down extra battery juice. It's just a run-of-the-mill luxury EV with 308 horsepower, so the limited range simply cannot be rationalized.
