Like its Jaguar F-Pace corporate cousin, the Range Rover Velar fails to deliver the goods with the base four-cylinder engine. Acceleration is poor for this class, and the fuel economy is also disappointing.
The "P400" turbocharged and supercharged 3.0-liter inline-6 is optional on the Dynamic SE trim — that's the cheapest way to get it. Cheapest, but not cheap, as it tacks $9k onto the base price. This engine proves its worth, though, transforming the Range Rover Velar from a forgettable four-cylinder performer to an authoritative performance SUV. Fuel economy? Not great, but it's also not far behind that of the four-cylinder, giving you another reason to upgrade.
