Is the 2025 Land Rover Range Rover Velar a Good SUV?
"Land Rover bookends this segment with the Velar, which is one of the longest compact luxury SUVs, and the Discovery Sport, which is one of the shortest. Both unfortunately come standard with Land Rover's forgettable four-cylinder engine, an underachiever in terms of both acceleration and fuel economy. So why pay five figures more for the Velar? The obvious answer is styling — the Velar takes after the subcompact Range Rover Evoque in putting fashion first. You can also specify a much stronger inline-6 engine in the Velar — the same one offered in its Jag F-Pace platform-mate — but that drives the price even farther away from sensibility."—Ranked #11 out of 16 Compact Luxury SUVs

1. 2025 Land Rover Range Rover Velar P250 (2.0T All-Wheel Drive)
- Base Price: $61,500
- MPG Combined: 23
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.0-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 9-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 247
- Torque: 269 lb-ft
- 0-60: 7.1 sec
- Weight: 4,130 lbs
- Length: 188.9 in
- Towing Capacity: 5,291 lbs
Like its Jaguar F-Pace corporate cousin, the Range Rover Velar fails to deliver the goods with the base four-cylinder engine. Acceleration is poor for this class, and the fuel economy is also disappointing.
2. 2025 Land Rover Range Rover Velar P400 (3.0T S/C All-Wheel Drive)
- Base Price: $70,600
- MPG Combined: 22
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 3.0-liter inline-6
- Aspiration: Turbocharged and supercharged
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 395
- Torque: 406 lb-ft
- 0-60: 5.2 sec
- Weight: 4,430 lbs
- Length: 188.9 in
- Towing Capacity: 5,511 lbs
The "P400" turbocharged and supercharged 3.0-liter inline-6 is optional on the Dynamic SE trim — that's the cheapest way to get it. Cheapest, but not cheap, as it tacks $9k onto the base price. This engine proves its worth, though, transforming the Range Rover Velar from a forgettable four-cylinder performer to an authoritative performance SUV. Fuel economy? Not great, but it's also not far behind that of the four-cylinder, giving you another reason to upgrade.
