1. 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee L 3.6 Rear-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $40,035
- MPG Combined: 21
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 3.6-liter V6
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 293
- Torque: 260 lb-ft
- Weight: 4,524 lbs
- Length: 204.9 in
- Towing Capacity: 6,200 lbs
The rear-drive Grand Cherokee L checks most of the boxes for larger families, but the V6 struggles to move all that mass relative to many rivals. You can't get the optional V8 with rear-wheel drive, however, so if you're planning to skip 4WD, the V6 is your only option.
2. 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee L 3.6 Four-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $42,035
- MPG Combined: 21
- Drive Type: Four-wheel drive
- Engine: 3.6-liter V6
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 293
- Torque: 260 lb-ft
- 0-60: 8.0 sec
- Weight: 4,658 lbs
- Length: 204.9 in
- Towing Capacity: 6,200 lbs
With the V6, the Grand Cherokee L fails to impress in terms of acceleration, though the example that recorded the numbers printed here was a loaded Summit trim that was carrying about 350 extra pounds. So we're guessing that the full potential of this rig is more like 7.7 seconds to 60, but still, the V6 is overburdened here because the JGC L simply weighs more than its more car-like rivals. We would skip to the V8 if we were you.
3. 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee L 5.7 Four-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $66,990
- MPG Combined: 17
- Drive Type: Four-wheel drive
- Engine: 5.7-liter V8
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 357
- Torque: 390 lb-ft
- 0-60: 6.2 sec
- Weight: 5,226 lbs
- Length: 204.9 in
- Towing Capacity: 7,200 lbs
Although the 5.7-liter V8 is positioned as a luxury upgrade — it's only offered on the top-shelf Overland and Summit trims — the Grand Cherokee L really needs it if you want to accelerate with authority. The base V6 doesn't have enough sauce to make this heavy vehicle get up and go. Too bad you have to pay luxury money to get the V8.
