Is the 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee L a Good SUV?
"The Grand Cherokee L looks and feels more special than the typical family hauler in this segment, but it also weighs more than the norm, and that's where its mediocre V6 engine holds it back. Both its acceleration and its fuel economy are lackluster."—Ranked #14 out of 15 Midsize 3-Row SUVs

1. 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee L 3.6 Rear-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $39,035
- MPG Combined: 21
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 3.6-liter V6

- Horsepower: 293

The rear-drive Grand Cherokee L checks most of the boxes for larger families, but the V6 struggles to move all that mass relative to many rivals. This generally pleasant family hauler deserves a better motor.
2. 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee L 3.6 Four-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $41,035
- MPG Combined: 21
- Drive Type: Four-wheel drive
- Engine: 3.6-liter V6
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 293
- Torque: 260 lb-ft
- 0-60: 8.0 sec
- Weight: 4,658 lbs
- Length: 204.9 in
- Towing Capacity: 6,200 lbs
The Grand Cherokee L fails to impress in terms of acceleration, though the example that recorded the numbers printed here was a loaded Summit trim that was carrying about 350 extra pounds. On that basis, we're guessing that the full potential of this rig is more like 7.7 seconds to 60. Still, the V6 is overburdened here because the JGC L simply outweighs its more car-like rivals. Too bad you can't get the V8 anymore.
