1. 2024 GMC Yukon 5.3 Rear-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $58,200
- MPG Combined: 17
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 5.3-liter V8
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 10-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 355
- Torque: 383 lb-ft
- Weight: 5,490 lbs
- Length: 210.0 in
- Towing Capacity: 8,400 lbs
The base Yukon is a highly capable SUV in its own right, though we'd be tempted to tack on 4WD.
2. 2024 GMC Yukon 3.0T Diesel Rear-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $59,195
- MPG Combined: 23
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 3.0-liter inline-6
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 10-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 277
- Torque: 460 lb-ft
- Weight: 5,734 lbs
- Length: 210.0 in
- Towing Capacity: 8,100 lbs
We're big fans of the optional turbodiesel inline-6. The gas V8 will naturally out-accelerate it if you floor the throttle, but the way most people drive most of the time, the diesel will feel relatively effortless thanks to all that low-end torque. When you factor in the massive fuel-economy gains and extended mileage on the powertrain warranty, it's a very tempting $995 upgrade.
3. 2024 GMC Yukon 5.3 Four-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $61,200
- MPG Combined: 17
- Drive Type: Four-wheel drive
- Engine: 5.3-liter V8
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 10-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 355
- Torque: 383 lb-ft
- Weight: 5,677 lbs
- Length: 210.0 in
- Towing Capacity: 8,200 lbs
Adding 4WD to the 5.3-liter Yukon doesn't change the EPA's fuel economy projections at all, so we'd call it a no-brainer. Even if you won't use 4WD very often, it'll help you with resale down the road. Towing capacity does go down by 200 pounds, but we're guessing you can live with that.
4. 2024 GMC Yukon 3.0T Diesel Four-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $62,195
- MPG Combined: 22
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 3.0-liter inline-6
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 10-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 277
- Torque: 460 lb-ft
- Weight: 5,922 lbs
- Length: 210.0 in
- Towing Capacity: 7,800 lbs
Adding 4WD to the diesel doesn't change much in terms of price or fuel economy, but you do lose 300 pounds of towing capacity. Unless you really need to tow 8,000 pounds, though, having 4WD on hand is probably worth that trade.
5. 2024 GMC Yukon 6.2 Four-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $74,125
- MPG Combined: 16
- Drive Type: Four-wheel drive
- Engine: 6.2-liter V8
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 10-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 420
- Torque: 460 lb-ft
- Weight: 5,827 lbs
- Length: 210.0 in
- Towing Capacity: 8,000 lbs
Interestingly, the 6.2-liter Yukon is slightly cheaper with 4WD, or can be, because the big V8 is a standalone option on the off-road-oriented AT4 trim. So you have two choices when it comes to 6.2-liter 4WD Yukons: Add the 6.2 to the AT4, or step up to the Denali 4WD — which comes standard with the 6.2 — for about $6k more to start.
6. 2024 GMC Yukon 6.2 Rear-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $76,805
- MPG Combined: 16
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 6.2-liter V8
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 10-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 420
- Torque: 460 lb-ft
- Weight: 5,631 lbs
- Length: 210.0 in
- Towing Capacity: 8,200 lbs
The 6.2-liter V8 is a muscular and satisfying engine, but if you want it with rear-wheel drive, it's only available in the top-shelf Denali trim, hence the high starting price.
