What's New for 2025?
Refreshed like its Chevy Tahoe twin for 2025, the Yukon takes a dramatically different tack inside. Its new 16.8-inch central infotainment screen has a portrait-style vertical orientation, whereas the Tahoe has a landscape-style widescreen. Under the hood, the revised turbodiesel inline-6 makes 28 more horsepower and 35 more lb-ft of torque. The front bench seat, meanwhile, is no longer available, so max seating capacity drops to eight. All these changes don't come cheap, as the Yukon's base price is up by nearly $9k this year.

Is the 2025 GMC Yukon a Good SUV?
"Refreshed like its Chevy Tahoe twin for 2025, the Yukon takes a dramatically different tack inside. Its new 16.8-inch central infotainment screen has a portrait-style vertical orientation, whereas the Tahoe has a landscape-style widescreen. Under the hood, the revised turbodiesel inline-6 makes 28 more horsepower and 35 more lb-ft of torque, but it'll cost you a lot more now. Overall, you can't go wrong with either of these corporate twins, which continue to dominate the segment's sales charts for good reason. The Yukon is significantly more expensive, however, so it loses on value in the final tally."—Ranked #2 out of 6 Full-Size SUVs

1. 2025 GMC Yukon 5.3 Rear-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $66,900
- MPG Combined: 17
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 5.3-liter V8
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 10-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 355
- Torque: 383 lb-ft
- Weight: 5,602 lbs
- Length: 210.2 in
- Towing Capacity: 8,400 lbs
The base Yukon is a highly capable SUV in its own right, though we'd be tempted to tack on 4WD.
2. 2025 GMC Yukon 5.3 Four-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $69,900
- MPG Combined: 17
- Drive Type: Four-wheel drive
- Engine: 5.3-liter V8
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 10-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 355
- Torque: 383 lb-ft
- Length: 210.2 in
- Towing Capacity: N/A
Adding 4WD to the 5.3-liter Yukon doesn't change the EPA's fuel economy projections at all, so we'd call it a no-brainer. Even if you won't use 4WD very often, it'll help you with resale down the road. Towing capacity does go down a bit, but we're guessing you can live with that.
3. 2025 GMC Yukon 3.0T Diesel Rear-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $73,000 (est.)
- MPG Combined: N/A
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 3.0-liter inline-6
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 10-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 305
- Torque: 495 lb-ft
- Length: 210.2 in
- Towing Capacity: N/A
We're big fans of the optional turbodiesel inline-6. The gas V8 will naturally out-accelerate it if you floor the throttle, but the way most people drive most of the time, the diesel will feel relatively effortless thanks to all that low-end torque. When you factor in the massive fuel-economy gains and extended mileage on the powertrain warranty, it's a very tempting upgrade.
4. 2025 GMC Yukon 3.0T Diesel Four-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $76,000 (est.)
- MPG Combined: N/A
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 3.0-liter inline-6
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 10-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 305
- Torque: 495 lb-ft
- Length: 210.2 in
- Towing Capacity: N/A
Adding 4WD to the diesel doesn't change much in terms of price or fuel economy, but you do lose a bit of towing capacity. Unless you really need to tow 8,000 pounds, though, having 4WD on hand is probably worth that trade.
5. 2025 GMC Yukon 6.2 Four-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $76,195
- MPG Combined: 16
- Drive Type: Four-wheel drive
- Engine: 6.2-liter V8
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 10-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 420
- Torque: 460 lb-ft
- Length: 210.2 in
- Towing Capacity: N/A
Interestingly, the 6.2-liter Yukon is slightly cheaper with 4WD, or can be, because the big V8 is a standalone option on the off-road-oriented AT4 trim.
6. 2025 GMC Yukon 6.2 Rear-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $77,000
- MPG Combined: 17
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 6.2-liter V8
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 10-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 420
- Torque: 460 lb-ft
- Length: 210.2 in
- Towing Capacity: 8,200 lbs
The 6.2-liter V8 is a muscular and satisfying engine, but if you want it with rear-wheel drive, it's only available in the top-shelf Denali trim, hence the high starting price.
