What's New for 2025?
The F-150 lineup is so complex that there are always a few tweaks, even in a slow year. Having said that, this year is about as slow as it gets. If you're torn between a 2025 F-150 and a comparable model from last year, it's fair to think of them as essentially the same truck.

The 2025 F-150 lineup starts out with the 2.7-liter turbocharged V6 paired with the regular cab and the long 8-foot bed. The optional 5.0-liter V8 ($1,660 extra) can tow about 25% more poundage and of course sounds like a good old-fashioned truck, but the 2.7T predictably has the edge in fuel economy.
It's cool that the second-cheapest 2025 F-150 you can buy has Ford's tasty 5.0-liter V8 in it. Note that if you want to see all 10,200 pounds of maximum towing capacity with the V8 4x2 powertrain, you'll have to opt for the 8-foot bed (the 6.5-foot bed is standard), which only costs $300 more.
The 2.7T is a sensible choice in the SuperCab configuration if you don't need a supersized backseat and don't need to max out the F-150 platform's towing and hauling capabilities. The price seems right on this one.
Adding 4WD boosts the 2.7T's starting price by a healthy $5k, and it takes a little bite out of fuel economy, too. We'll take the V8, thanks.
The twin-turbo 3.5T EcoBoost V6 has been around for a lot of years now, and as you can see, it's neck-and-neck with the 5.0-liter V8 for towing and hauling supremacy.
Step up to the 5.0 SuperCab and you get a second seating row with rear-hinged rear doors, plus a 6.5-foot bed — the SuperCab only offers that one bed.
It strikes us as miraculous that the F-150 V8 gets the same fuel economy, per the EPA, whether it's a 4x2 or a 4x4. Just consider the fact that the 4x4 weighs about 260 pounds more, never mind the more complex drivetrain. Also surprising is the $5k premium that Ford charges to add four-wheel drive.
We like the 2.7-liter turbo V6 from a drivability standpoint, but there's no avoiding the fact that it gives you the lowest towing and payload maximums in the F-150 lineup. For not a whole lot more money, you can have your SuperCrew with the 5.0-liter V8 or 3.5-liter turbo V6.
Not to knock an 8,000-pound towing capacity, but adding four-wheel drive brings the 2.7T SuperCab down to that nice round number. It's probably more than enough for most folks, but if towing matters to you, this isn't the powertrain — try the 5.0-liter V8 or the 3.5T EcoBoost V6.
With the Max Trailer Tow package, the 3.5T edges past the 5.0-liter V8 in towing capacity, but the V8 wins on payload, presumably because it's a lighter package overall.
Add the Max Trailer Tow package to the 5.0-liter SuperCrew 4x2 and you get the impressive towing and payload capacities shown here. It doesn't get much better on those fronts in the F-150 universe.
The 4WD SuperCab F-150 with the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 is an extremely capable rig. If you're looking for one F-150 that'll do it all, from off-roading to people-carrying to towing and hauling, this is a great pick unless you really need the SuperCrew's larger backseat.
We're struck here again by the surcharge for four-wheel drive — nearly $4k if you're looking at the XL 5.0 SuperCab.
It's interesting to see that the 4WD 2.7T V6 is less fuel-efficient than either the 5.0-liter V8 or the 3.5T V6 with 4WD. Goes to show that when you're trying to motivate such a massive beast, a hard-working small engine may need more gas than a relaxed larger one.
The Max Trailer Tow package squeezes out more than 13,000 pounds of towing capacity out of the 3.5T 4WD SuperCrew with the 5.5-foot bed, almost setting the F-150 record. It trails only the same configuration with the longer 6.5-foot bed.
Surprisingly, the 4x4 5.0-liter F-150 SuperCrew actually out-tows the 4x2 by 200 pounds. Usually the addition of four-wheel drive reduces max towing a smidge.
Here it is: The F-150 with the highest maximum towing capacity. Now you just have to find room to park it — the four-door SuperCrew cabin paired with the 6.5-foot bed is a very long vehicle.
Optional from the XLT trim on up in the SuperCrew body style, the PowerBoost hybrid delivers huge horsepower and torque, along with impressive fuel economy for such a beast. You'll notice that it doesn't come cheap, though — you're looking at more than $56k just to get in the door, with many more pricing levels above that.
Now offered only in four-door SuperCrew form, the base Raptor continues to utilize a hopped-up version of Ford's 3.5-liter turbocharged V6. If you think the Raptor would be even better with a V8 soundtrack, the Raptor R's got you covered.
Pop quiz: What's the most expensive option for the F-150 Raptor? Answer: The Raptor R package, which runs more than $30k but will be viewed by a certain kind of buyer as a screaming bargain. The tires are 37s (optional on the "regular" Raptor), the engine is the 5.2-liter supercharged V8 from the GT, and the result is truck nirvana if you just want to get off the tarmac and have fun.
