Which 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe Should I Buy?

1. 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe 5.3 Rear-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $56,200
- MPG Combined: 17
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 5.3-liter V8
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 10-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 355
- Torque: 383 lb-ft
- Weight: 5,473 lbs
- Length: 210.7 in
- Towing Capacity: 8,400 lbs
You may not be aware that the Tahoe shares its platform and general dimensions with the Escalade, so the base rear-drive Tahoe can be understood as a 'Slade on the cheap, even though it's far from cheap (and the Chevy utilizes a smaller 5.3-liter V8).
2. 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe 3.0T Diesel Rear-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $57,195
- MPG Combined: 24
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 3.0-liter inline-6
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 10-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 277
- Torque: 460 lb-ft
- Weight: 5,717 lbs
- Length: 210.7 in
- Towing Capacity: 8,200 lbs
The Tahoe diesel's fuel economy is frankly incredible for an SUV with a curb weight pushing three tons. We're suckers for that low-end torque, too, and you can get all this for just $995 on top of the Tahoe's base price? Count us in.
3. 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe 5.3 Four-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $59,200
- MPG Combined: 17
- Drive Type: Four-wheel drive
- Engine: 5.3-liter V8
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 10-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 355
- Torque: 383 lb-ft
- 0-60: 7.5 sec
- Weight: 5,661 lbs
- Length: 210.7 in
- Towing Capacity: 8,200 lbs
Adding 4WD to the 5.3-liter Tahoe costs $3k but supposedly doesn't affect fuel economy at all, if you take the EPA's word for it. Somehow we doubt there's no penalty whatsoever, but you might as well get 4WD, right? Seems like a good value and a no-brainer to us.
4. 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe 3.0T Diesel Four-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $60,195
- MPG Combined: 22
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 3.0-liter inline-6
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 10-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 277
- Torque: 460 lb-ft
- 0-60: 7.8 sec
- Weight: 5,904 lbs
- Length: 210.7 in
- Towing Capacity: 8,000 lbs
Adding 4WD to the Tahoe Diesel does dock you 2 mpg, per the EPA, but that's still incredible fuel economy for a three-ton bruiser. As with the RWD Tahoe, the diesel upgrade only costs $995.
5. 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe 6.2 Rear-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $68,120
- MPG Combined: 16
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 6.2-liter V8
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 10-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 420
- Torque: 460 lb-ft
- 0-60: 6.0 sec
- Weight: 5,647 lbs
- Length: 210.7 in
- Towing Capacity: 8,300 lbs
If you want the 6.2-liter V8 in your Tahoe, you'll have to step up to at least the RST, a sport-oriented trim level that boosts the base price considerably. But there's no doubt that the 6.2 unlocks a different level of performance, so if that's a priority for you, it'll be money well spent.
6. 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe 6.2 Four-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $71,120
- MPG Combined: 16
- Drive Type: Four-wheel drive
- Engine: 6.2-liter V8
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 10-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 420
- Torque: 460 lb-ft
- 0-60: 6.0 sec
- Weight: 5,845 lbs
- Length: 210.7 in
- Towing Capacity: 8,100 lbs
Pairing 4WD with the 6.2-liter V8 means you're looking at either the sporty RST variant or the off-roady Z71. Either way, expect a price well into the $70s if not the $80s, but the fact that the 6.2-liter Tahoe is basically an Escalade with a bowtie badge might ease the sticker shock.
