- 2024 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison
1. 2024 Chevrolet Colorado 2.7T Rear-Wheel Drive (Normal Output)
- Base Price: $29,500
- MPG Combined: 22
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.7-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 237
- Torque: 260 lb-ft
- Weight: 4,280 lbs
- Length: 213.0 in
- Towing Capacity: 3,500 lbs
- Payload Capacity: N/A
The entry-level Colorado squeaks under the $30k mark to start, but why anyone wouldn't spend the extra thousand bucks to get the TurboMax engine upgrade is beyond us.
2. 2024 Chevrolet Colorado 2.7T TurboMax Rear-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $30,550
- MPG Combined: 21
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.7-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 310
- Torque: 430 lb-ft
- Weight: 4,280 lbs
- Length: 213.0 in
- Towing Capacity: 7,700 lbs
- Payload Capacity: 1,684 lbs
So what's Chevy up to with this "TurboMax" engine business? It's basically the same 2.7-liter turbo four that comes in the entry-level Colorado, but for an extra $1,050, Chevy unlocks a whole lot more power and torque. Not only does that give you a kick in the pants when you accelerate, it also more than doubles towing capacity to 7,700 pounds. You barely lose any fuel economy, too. No downside to speak of here.
3. 2024 Chevrolet Colorado 2.7T Four-Wheel Drive (Normal Output)
- Base Price: $32,800
- MPG Combined: 20
- Drive Type: Four-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.7-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 237
- Torque: 260 lb-ft
- Weight: 4,480 lbs
- Length: 213.0 in
- Towing Capacity: 3,500 lbs
- Payload Capacity: N/A
Our question about the standard-output Colorado 4x4 is the same as with the 4x2: Why would anyone not drop the extra grand on the TurboMax upgrade? It's so little money for so much more acceleration and towing.
4. 2024 Chevrolet Colorado 2.7T TurboMax Four-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $33,850
- MPG Combined: 20
- Drive Type: Four-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.7-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 310
- Torque: 430 lb-ft
- Weight: 4,480 lbs
- Length: 213.0 in
- Towing Capacity: 7,700 lbs
- Payload Capacity: N/A
As with the TurboMax 4x2, we're all in on the TurboMax 4x4 versus the normal-output 4x4. You pay your thousand bones and you get a huge injection of power that more than doubles the towing limit. Did Chevy want a 100% take rate on the TurboMax variants or something? You can also get the TurboMax 4x4 in high-zoot Z71 trim, whereas the normal-output engine is only in the WT and LT trims.
5. 2024 Chevrolet Colorado Trail Boss
- Base Price: $37,300
- MPG Combined: 18
- Drive Type: Four-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.7-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 310
- Torque: 430 lb-ft
- 0-60: 6.1 sec
- Weight: 4,525 lbs
- Length: 213.2 in
- Towing Capacity: 7,700 lbs
- Payload Capacity: N/A
The Trail Boss is a popular Colorado variant for good reason: It retains all the functionality of the regular Colorado TurboMax 4x4, including the max towing capacity, while adding major off-road chops courtesy of a two-inch suspension lift, a locking rear differential, all-terrain tires and more. Pretty sweet deal for less than $40k.
6. 2024 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2
- Base Price: $46,800
- MPG Combined: 17
- Drive Type: Four-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.7-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 310
- Torque: 430 lb-ft
- Weight: 4,940 lbs
- Length: 212.7 in
- Towing Capacity: 6,000 lbs
- Payload Capacity: 1,280 lbs
A lot of Colorado shoppers will be wondering if the ZR2 is worth the stretch over the Trail Boss. Good question. The ZR2 adds 300 pounds, hence the lower fuel economy, and due to the extra weight and other factors, max towing drops by 1,700 pounds. But you do get more ground clearance, ZR2-exclusive Multimatic DSSV shocks, manual front and rear locking differentials, 33-inch tires and a bunch more go-hard upgrades. Is it all worth nearly 10 grand? We'd stick with the Trail Boss, but we can certainly understand the temptation.
7. 2024 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison
- Base Price: $58,945
- MPG Combined: 16
- Drive Type: Four-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.7-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 310
- Torque: 430 lb-ft
- Weight: 5,265 lbs
- Length: 214.1 in
- Towing Capacity: 5,500 lbs
- Payload Capacity: 1,050 lbs
So what do you get for another $12k or so relative to the regular ZR2? In addition to the ZR2's signature Multimatic shocks, Chevy installs a set of Multimatic Jounce Control Dampers that are designed to improve shock absorption at speed, while other add-ons include rock rails, steel bumpers, steel skidplates, 35-inch tires and a vertical-mounted spare tire in the bed that looks badass.
