What's New for 2025?
We like to think that Chevy was listening to our complaints about the base-output 2.7T engine not making any sense, because it goes away for 2025, meaning that all Colorados will feature the "TurboMax" 310-horsepower version of the 2.7T. Otherwise, this is fundamentally the same truck as last year aside from some minor shuffling of features and options.

Is the 2025 Chevrolet Colorado a Good Truck?
"The Colorado achieves segment supremacy thanks to its competitive attributes across the board. We especially like the high-value Trail Boss, which gives you an off-road-ready build right from the factory for about $40k. But every Colorado now comes standard with the 310-horsepower version of the 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine (there's no more 'Max' distinction for that version), so you get the best Chevy has to offer no matter which model you choose. The styling hits us right, too — previous Colorados had functional designs at best, but this one looks great. Bonus points for having the lowest starting price in this group."—Ranked #1 out of 7 Midsize Trucks

1. 2025 Chevrolet Colorado 2.7T Rear-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $31,900
- MPG Combined: 21
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.7-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 310
- Torque: 430 lb-ft
- Weight: 4,280 lbs
- Length: 213.0 in
- Towing Capacity: 7,700 lbs
- Payload Capacity: 1,684 lbs
Great news for 2025: every Colorado engine is a "TurboMax," meaning that the 2.7-liter turbo four now comes standard with what used to be the higher-output version. Not only does that give you a kick in the pants when you accelerate, it also more than doubles towing capacity to 7,700 pounds. Rock on.
2. 2025 Chevrolet Colorado 2.7T Four-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $35,200
- MPG Combined: 20
- Drive Type: Four-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.7-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 310
- Torque: 430 lb-ft
- Weight: 4,480 lbs
- Length: 213.0 in
- Towing Capacity: 7,700 lbs
- Payload Capacity: N/A
Adding four-wheel drive to your Colorado also adds a hefty $3k-plus to the bottom line, but you'll probably get much if not all of that back in the form of higher resale value. Like the GMC Canyon, however, the lesser Colorado 4x4s actually don't have low-range gearing — you'll need to upgrade to at least the Trail Boss if you want that versatility. Of course, the Colorado's generous standard ground clearance means that even the base RWD model can do mountain-goat things on the trails, but we'd want that low-range gearing if we were considering a Colorado 4WD.
3. 2025 Chevrolet Colorado Trail Boss
- Base Price: $39,800
- MPG Combined: 18
- Drive Type: Four-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.7-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 310
- Torque: 430 lb-ft
- 0-60: 6.1 sec
- Weight: 4,525 lbs
- Length: 213.2 in
- Towing Capacity: 7,700 lbs
- Payload Capacity: N/A
The Trail Boss is a popular Colorado variant for good reason: it retains all the functionality of the regular Colorado 4x4, including the max towing capacity, while adding major off-road chops courtesy of a dual-range transfer case, a two-inch suspension lift, a locking rear differential, all-terrain tires and more. Pretty sweet deal for about $40k; in fact, one could argue that it's the best all-around value in the entire Midsize Truck segment.
4. 2025 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2
- Base Price: $49,600
- MPG Combined: 17
- Drive Type: Four-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.7-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 310
- Torque: 430 lb-ft
- Weight: 4,940 lbs
- Length: 212.7 in
- Towing Capacity: 6,000 lbs
- Payload Capacity: 1,280 lbs
A lot of Colorado shoppers will be wondering if the ZR2 is worth the stretch over the Trail Boss. Good question. The ZR2 adds 300 pounds, hence the lower fuel economy, and due to the extra weight and other factors, max towing drops by 1,700 pounds. But you do get more ground clearance, ZR2-exclusive Multimatic DSSV shocks, manual front and rear locking differentials, 33-inch tires and a bunch more go-hard upgrades. Is it all worth an extra 10 grand? We'd stick with the Trail Boss, but we can certainly understand the temptation.
5. 2025 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison
- Base Price: $61,300
- MPG Combined: 16
- Drive Type: Four-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.7-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 310
- Torque: 430 lb-ft
- Weight: 5,265 lbs
- Length: 214.1 in
- Towing Capacity: 5,500 lbs
- Payload Capacity: 1,050 lbs
So what do you get for another $12k or so relative to the regular ZR2? In addition to the ZR2's signature Multimatic shocks, Chevy installs a set of Multimatic Jounce Control Dampers that are designed to improve shock absorption at speed, while other add-ons include rock rails, steel bumpers, steel skidplates, 35-inch tires and a vertical-mounted spare tire in the bed that looks badass.
