Is the 2025 BMW X7 a Good SUV?
"Powerful, imposing, versatile, athletic — the list of superlatives goes on for the BMW X7, which is built in South Carolina and intended to combine accommodating three-row seating with an upscale, tech-forward interior and sporty European driving dynamics. Consider that mission accomplished, although the Benz's second and third rows are considerably roomier. We also salute the X7's styling, which is at once imposing and artfully restrained, a combination that the baroque 7 Series sedan only gets half right. There's even decent value here by segment standards, as a bone-stock X7 with the superb turbo inline-6 engine is a lot of luxury SUV for $85k or so."—Ranked #3 out of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVs

1. 2025 BMW X7 xDrive40i (3.0T All-Wheel Drive)
- Base Price: $83,500
- MPG Combined: 22
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 3.0-liter inline-6
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 375
- Torque: 398 lb-ft
- 0-60: 5.6 sec
- Weight: 5,452 lbs
- Length: 203.6 in
- Towing Capacity: 7,500 lbs
The entry-level X7 checks most of the boxes for shoppers in search of a three-row luxury SUV. Would we like a bit more oomph under the hood? Sure, but the optional V8 (i.e., the M60i xDrive version) doesn't come cheap.
2. 2025 BMW X7 M60i xDrive (4.4T All-Wheel Drive)
- Base Price: $110,900
- MPG Combined: 18
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 4.4-liter V8
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 523
- Torque: 553 lb-ft
- 0-60: 4.5 sec
- Weight: 5,895 lbs
- Length: 203.6 in
- Towing Capacity: 7,500 lbs
We might advise not test-driving the X7 M60i, because as good as the xDrive40i’s turbocharged inline-6 engine is, this twin-turbo V8 is on a different level. The problem is, it's also on a different price level, so tread carefully unless you're prepared to shell out well into six figures for your X7.
3. 2025 BMW Alpina XB7
- Base Price: $152,400
- MPG Combined: 17
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 4.4-liter V8
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 631
- Torque: 590 lb-ft
- 0-60: 4.0 sec
- Weight: 5,986 lbs
- Length: 203.6 in
- Towing Capacity: 7,500 lbs
Quick, what weighs three tons, has three rows of seats and gets to 60 mph in 4 seconds flat? There can't be many answers to that question, but the Alpina XB7 is one of them. It also costs almost as much as two entry-level BMW X7s, so you have to pay a lot to play this game, but it's a fun one.
