Sharp styling and quick reflexes make even the entry-level X1 seem desirable. We prefer the M35i variant's stronger engine, of course, but it's not a must-have given how good the xDrive28i already is.
The M35i's extra power is tempting, for sure, but keep in mind that it's still coming from a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine, just like the base xDrive28i. So the fundamental character of the vehicle doesn't change here; there's just more urgency when you put your foot down, which is certainly worth something.
