Is the 2025 BMW M8 Gran Coupe a Good Car?
"Is the M8 Gran Coupe overkill, given that the 'regular' M850i xDrive Gran Coupe with its fire-breathing 523-horsepower V8 already exists? Well, yes, obviously — but that's also the point. This segment is all about excess, and the M8 Gran Coupe is a 617-hp monument to it. Although the M8 GC is, like the M5, unusually long for a midsize sedan, we daresay it's the better driver's car, as it uses essentially the same twin-turbo V8 without any of the PHEV frippery, saving hundreds of pounds. Looks a lot better, too."—Ranked #4 out of 5 Midsize High-Performance Sedans

Comparing the M8 Competition Gran Coupe to the Alpina B8 (another aggressively priced variant of the 8 Series Gran Coupe), it's notable that the M8 is a few hundred pounds lighter, which explains why its acceleration is better. The M8 also has a larger fuel tank than the other 8 Series Gran Coupe variants, which is nice given that its fuel economy is the lowest of the bunch. And speaking of price, the M8 is more than $10k cheaper than the B8 Alpina. The problem is that it's still way more expensive than the very similar M850i Gran Coupe.
