The i5 is a competitive EV offering even in entry-level form, thanks to a powerful electric motor and respectable range.
Step up to 20-inch wheels and you lose 17 miles of range, which isn't that much, we suppose. Still, we'd rather have the miles.
To get the 21-inch wheels on your i5 eDrive40, you have to add the M Sport package, which adds a few grand to the base price. To be fair, the range penalty for bigger wheels is less severe with the i5 than with some other EVs, but bigger wheels mean worse ride quality, too.
Although the regular i5 eDrive40 will be plenty quick for most folks, the M60 adds a second electric motor and takes the i5's acceleration straight to bonkersville. It's a thrill ride that might prove irresistible, although the price premium is nothing to sneeze at.
Adding 20-inch wheels to the M60 doesn't cost many miles of range, so it might be worth the tradeoff in ride comfort (the bigger the wheels, the less comfy the ride).
The 21s don't take away as much range as we'd expect, but it's worth remembering that the entry-level i5 eDrive40 with 19-inch wheels gets 55 more miles per charge (and costs almost $20k less).
